Howdy, I'm another nubee to this forum. I've been a toyota lifer but recently bought a 72' FJ40. Dune beige, 75' 2f, 78 4 spd. love it! I've put the wife and kids on the back burner. Any way I do not have a tach. on the vehicle yet and was wondering if anyone knows approx. RPM's at 60 mph.

all of them.....

Welcome and congrats on the new 40.

you probably have stock gears so alot will depend on your tire size

Depends a lot on tire size, but about 2700-2800 on mine with 31s

Stock tires?... A bit more info would help as it effects your final rpm output.

With 28's you would be turning pretty good. Guessing but somewhere around 3000 or so.

FWIW, I am running 35s and run at 60mph at around 2300 rpm.

What size tires are you running?

Oh yeah and WELCOME! This really is a disease :D

BFGs are pretty close to their actual size rating. I bet you are somewhere around 2800rpm, maybe a bit more.

Anyone?

BTW, NICE looking cruiser!

A tach instal is EASY and well worth it if you ask me. These things redline around 4000 rpm.

Just my .02, but this is my third post, so it is more like my .06 :)

Thank you for the reply's. It sounds like the 2f is about to explode at 60. I guess I will be reassured after the tach. install.

That is a nice 40, good job finding it.

Go faster, they mellow out a bit...

(and no I am not kidding, all of my f/2F's sounded horrible between 55 and 65, but sounded a lot better above and below that speed..)

second Mace, mine sounds better at higher RPM ;)

Nice looking rig. I have a 74 with a three speed and at 60mph the rpm's are about as high as the national debt! Welcome to the site!

Anybody up for another question? I'm curious to why someone would cut these posts other than stupidity?View attachment 55086

formula

How's your algebra? rpm= trpmxaxle ratioxtop trans rationxmph divided by 60. trpm is tire revs per mile, calculate that by dividing 20800 by tire height.

That's why I wax my license plate. Cuts down on the wind resistance on that flat-fronted, wind-pushing bastard that I drive!
