Another job for the er cusi-a....this stuff is more useful than duct tape.
Hardly burns any paint off at all.

More than pleased with how the carb and aircleaner fit up together.
Got a new lower thermostat housing.
Came up with fasteners for the early steel valve cover....the 2F studs were way to short.
Next step is gettinga fuel pump and the fuel plumbing from the filter sorted.
Getting the throttle cable carb integration is the last hurdle to figure out.
Lastly will be a stainless exhaust for it.

Coolant side all closed up.
Fuel is closed up...still need a bracket to mount the cable to the carb....been trying to source one of trollhole's brackets from his carb venture from almost 20 years ago, but not gaining any ground on that path.
Need to actually get the dissy sat right.
A battery of its own might help, and I think im ready to see if we can't light this fire.

with no overflow bottle.....will the new style system, overflow till it reaches a happy median, or will it burp every time till it runs low on coolant?

I ended up installing a small Toyota OE overflow bottle bc it was burping/expanding coolant which led me to add coolant infrequently. It has a cold and hot fill line. So no more dumping expanded/heated coolant on the ground. I either bought it from Vintageteq or Cruiser-cult

I jammed a plastic 1 gallon antifreeze in the corner in front of the battery behind the head light. A couple times a year I pour the contents back in the radiator. Been doing that for like 40 years. It seems like it always doesn't suck everything back in all the time - maybe quart - not much considering 4 gallons of coolant

Without an overflow it should burp coolant out until it's at a happy level and pretty much stay at that level. If the engine happens to run a little hotter one time it will probably burp more. Mine eventually pushes out about a qt or a little more after topping it off. I will eventually add an overflow bottle just to be wildlife friendly.

the engine bay old school look is getting there.... nice job! I guess the radiator cap with chain is no longer available?

the late 60's Hilux coolant bottle would work nice for you... I like using the overflow bottle as I put enough oil on the ground and don't want to add coolant to my driveway spots :)

I have 2 40's each have sbc's and stk radiators. On the street 40, it's a 13lbs cap, nothing special. It runs cool. It has the cap that came on it when I bought it many yrs ago. I only mention it, because its not a stk engine. I'm not sure what cap is on the other one, but they both purge about the same amount.

Loud, coughing and sputtering, almost running like noises have been made.
Guess it's time to do something about that exhaust.

First swing is close.
Problem is, it actually is too close. Front section is great, things start getting tight in the rear. Not sure plan A muffler will work...Will play around some and see what happens.

intake manifold has a massive leak....going to pull the them back off and send to the shop to be surfaced....like i should have done to begin with, but i love love love doing the same job two or three times.
charging system doesnt appear to be charging, so that will be fun.
but and a big but, it will idle/run enough that i could back it in and out of the garage under its own power a few times....very excited about that.
i welded out the front 2/3 of the exhaust and have a plan for the section after the muffler, which looks like i can make work, only thing is the exhaust will exist behind the passenger side tire instead of on the drivers side....dont care about that change.
all and all a productive morning.

Was planning on quitting for the day after the last post...but finished running the exhaust instead...still need to hang it, but thats the easy part.

Speedo and oil light now operational.
And so long as the USPS doesn't fail me, the carb/gas pedal integration will be under control shortly...which means a cruiser around the neighborhood is imminent.
