Btw, I just installed the rough country 4 inch lift and mine was not sky high like this. I can update with a good picture when I have a daytime shot. Even with no interior, rollbar top or front clip, my rear shackles were ok.

I just earned my junior mechanic badge... finally adjusted the valves. I did the go-no go method and it couldn't have been easier. they were making so much noise before, now that they're adjusted properly I'm hearing a whole new set of noises. I heard the exhaust for the first time and the quite whine of the transmission. Why did I wait so long to do this, checking them while they're running is definitely the way to go. I also solved my hard starting issue by retarding the ignition a few degrees. If yours is turning fine then dies down like the battery is dead when it catches it needs to be retarded a bit. Now mine fires right up with a turn of the key.
 
Good looking cruiser. Looks like my old neighborhood in Elkton, FL. I worked out of SGJ for Hoke at SK for a while and just bought the same color FJ. Those pics bring back some good memories.
