First FJ40 build in a long time

Wind chill of something like 4 degrees when I went outside to "feed the barn". My back goes out and just as I'm getting able to get back to it, the bottom falls out of the thermometer and there's NO WAY I'm working in this cold on that truck because there's NO WAY to heat the barn. IT'S A BARN!

That's what the kitchen table is for! And yea, your barn umm, breathes. I'd take it though.

Just wait till Monday. High of 12, windchill of -5. That's cold for TN.
 
You're right. I had the front doors on the kitchen table for the finishing touches. Inner panels. I'm actually surprised at how much I like the CCOT plastic panels. Actually black AND they won't tear or mold. With all the black powder coating they will match well.
 
Rainey, did you receive my message about the 18th? I will be driving back from SC that day. I REALLY want to come and help. Is there any way I can come and work with you on the 19th or any subsequent days?

Sounds about like here, tomorrow is calling for a high of -14*F with a wind chill factor bringing us down to -50*F :crybaby: It hit 20 about a week ago and that felt nice in comparison.:meh:

I always watch the temps up in Ely, MN, as I go fishing up there every August. Pulling it up on the weather.com app always makes me appreciate the fact that it is a different world up there in the winter.

Arron,

I'm still planning on the 18th for putting the body on the frame but there will certainly be tons of stuff to do after that. Don't worry. You won't miss that much.
 
Side bar before work gets back on the FJ40. The 2F and tranny/t'case may get in this week if I get some "here, lift this" help before the tub goes on next weekend.

Well after my set back with a ruptured disc and the ridiculously cold weather, fellow MUD members Vae Victus and John6275 came over in the 20 degrees and helped get the drive train together and on the frame and then the tub and windshield mounted. Both had to leave before lunch so a few issues that we had to handle slowed us down and left a few things undone. But the things I really had to have help with got done.

A big thanks go to Scott and John. Glad they were so eager to help and get practice for their two rigs. I'll be sure to help where I can on yours...

Rainman was making it rain today! It was cold, but we got some stuff done.

Enjoyed the time - sorry it wasn't longer. I'm certainly willing to do it again.

Made putting the clutch, flywheel, bell housing, tranny together much less intimidating. Even without a proper alignment tool.

Body too. That was easier than I thought.

John, good meeting you.
 
Looks awesome... What is the interior of the tub textured with..?? Is it a RINO lining product...?? Excellent progress... Keep up the great work!! :)
 
Had a good time helping out even in the cold. Great meeting both you and Scott. Look forward to helping out some more. The FJ is looking great. Wish I could have stayed longer.

I'm curious too, as I think this is the route I may take - tintable monstaliner perhaps? Was it rolled on or sprayed? Truck is looking amazing!
 
The interior is sprayed with Raptor Liner. Great stuff. It's got just enough bump for a good grip but not so lumpy that it scratches. The floor is original metal and had a very rough coating on it but the raptor liner smoothed it out a bit. All the interior of the tub is lined except the firewall and the gas tank cover None on the doors.
 
I got the help of my son-in-law last night and we put the hardtop together. Man it looks good! You'll have to trust me at this point as it's tucked out of the way and covered up in the barn for now so I can't get any shots of it. I'll be sure to get some as soon as I can. The only thing it needs is a new head liner but I plan to drive the truck to the upholsterer for that at the end.
 
Rainman, one last question: is that dune beige, or Cygnus white? I'm sure you mentioned it somewhere in this thread but I can't find it...
