Glad you posted this. I saw the o ring in my pump box and wondered what it was for. Like you said, these fittings don’t usually have them. I’ll need to go back and install.

The o-ring is DEFINITELY NOT for the power steering hoses. Otherwise would supply them with the kit AND mention them in the instructions on this thread!!!!!
Some of the pumps come with extra o-rings for the inside ( in the pump ) portion of the high pressure fitting or the threaded hole in the pump.
Throw that o-ring in the trash ……..

@orangefj45 is there a better belt than the Duralast 17620 for this kit? I put new belts in the truck about 4k miles ago as PM and saved the old belts. This duralast belt is already noisy and looks worn with a small fray in one spot. I put my old belt back in which says "Premium Top-Cord 17620" and it's quiet for now.

If the new belt is frayed then it was either damaged during installation or one of your pulleys has a defect.
We’ve been producing these kits and running these exact belts for ten years now without issues/complaints.
But I’ll be more than happy to look into alternative belts for this setup.

@FJ40onNOS I did not buy a pulley installer for this. It felt like a single use purchase I could skip. So instead I used the technique a few others have called out of buying a bolt of appropriate diameter and thread pitch and using a stack of washers and my impact driver to pull the pulley onto the shaft. If you do this, lube the parts and make sure you use a hardened grade bolt and washer stack.
I screwed it up and had to take it to a machine shop to get sorted. Don't assume the pulley is going to be easy to pull on and definitely lube up both the pulley and the pump shaft. The pulley was incredibly hard to force onto the shaft and the first bolt I used was a standard grade (not hardened) and my impact driver sheered off the bolt with the pulley half on after 10 minutes of force. A local machine shop was able to weld another bolt onto the sheared original and extract it so I could try again. The machinist tried to gently pull the pulley on using a puller and was concerned he would distort the pulley because it required so much force. I bought a grade 8 bolt of the correct pitch and some super beefy grade 8 washers and the impact driver pulled it on in under a minute.
All that said, this pulley is not going to be extractable I am pretty sure so if I need to swap out pumps in the future, I need to buy a new pulley at that time.
My new pump is great and leak free which was my primary motivation. The power difference and ease in turning for me is negligible as a difference. I just know that since I rebuilt the whole steering setup, it doesn't spray fluid all over the engine bay when I turn the wheels to the extremes. I would definitely recommend using this time to rebuild your power steering gearbox at the same time. My steering gearbox was a mess of sludge and I am glad the whole system is clean now. I even installed a line filter to hopefully keep the next version cleaner.

@orangefj45 Probably a dumb question, but worth asking........I bought your kit years ago and it has been great. I am getting ready to convert to a 80 series steering box. There is no difference in how this works from the 60 box to the 80 box correct? Thanks!

Curious what everyone is using to plug the two threaded holes on the back of your pumps that come with a green and red temp plug in them? I found some 3/8-16 1/2 studs at Ace but when I went to install, it went into the threaded hole further than expected. By the time I tightened it down, it was around 1/4 inch recessed. Wondering if this bolt is too short and I need to move up to a 3/4 or 1 inch? Any suggestions?

Hot off the presses! This is the 1/2 bolt I found at ACE. After tightening down, you can see how far in that threaded hole this little sucker goes. Not sure if this is going to seal these holes up or not? ACE didn’t have a 3/8 16 1/2 bolt with a head so I rolled the dice and bought these hoping it might work.

You can cut off the threads if they “bother you”.
The threaded studs are used on other applications but not tho one.

Curious where you found your bolt? I didn’t see anything 1/2 at Ace. The 3/8-16 started at 3/4 and went up from there.

I went into Autozone this time around and sure enough, they had the 3/8-16 1/2. Nice and easy. Next time, I’ll go there first instead of Ace.
