For your tally: I would be interested in a bunch of the handle and rod clips if they fit the 45 pickups.

The handle should work , clips is another story as they ones for the 45 (someone please correct me here) use an offset bolt pattern , which could be done if needed . Still working on steps to build the clips and some more equipment for the shop - don't tell the wife .

From my searches , it sounds as if the original length for 4* series was around 39" overall - who knows exactly ??? Wish I had someone close that I could borrow an original for a day or two...

According to jp-carparts.com, the FJ40 handle is 850mm, the longer handle is 1005mm.

See if this is any help. The ribbon spool is 4" diameter, so I put the radius at 2". Not precise, probably some metric number, but America is where I live, but do own foreign 40.
Let me know if you need anything else.

I'm going to be a downer and predict a lot of broken arms/wrists/fingers if this product is successful.
I think the idea is cool, but...

No Downer needed , I already put a warning up with the bumper guide let alone the one coming for the starting handle when ready . Hand starting an engine is not exactly a safe thing to do . One false move with too much fuel , timing , or someone farts the wrong way and they kick back since a human can't spin the engine several revolutions with a lot of torque - ever seen how well even a tired direct-drive starter will move a Cruiser ? The gear reduction between a 1kw starter motor and that big flywheel is quite a lot - we don't have that leverage with a small crank handle and they usually kick back just as - or right after you let pressure off the handle . I learned young and the hard way hand-starting an old Lincoln short hood on the ground and got the scars to prove it . The method in the video mentioned previously is the proper and about the safest way to hand start . I really don't recommend anyone doing it , football helmet or not ...

Yes , those radius measurements help a lot , appreciate that .
If you measure from the handle end of the rod to the middle of the first bend , what is the length ?

BTW - first batch run of brackets is sold out , should have more done tomorrow or Wednesday .

geez ... you snooze you lose ... they went fast ... looking forward to the next batch ... great work, Sarge ...

Working out the dimensions to start making the clips now , need to order some heavy square stock and maybe go troll the scrap yards again - wish it would warm up . I may need a couple brave souls to stress test the crank handles - must be experienced in using them and have a well-tuned engine .
Any takers ?

I'm now wondering if there's room for a handle on later model 40s than the ones in the pics above. Wouldn't the door pillar present a problem? I've only had the crank handle in a 55 and it was under the rear seat as I remember.

FYI, the starter claw nut is not installed on 81-newer engines. The 81- hex nut can be replaced w/ the earlier claw nut if desired.

Only a real cruiser aficionado would know this off the top of his head.

Will the starter handle work if I have a Warn 8274 out front? I will look in the morning to see if I can at least get a line of site at the starter claw nut. I would love to have this as a back up. Great work Sarge! Thanks for all the effort!

I don't think it will work - the winch drum is probably in the way . Look at the point where the 2 bolt holes are in the bumper if you have them . The guide must sit within 1/4" plane with the top of the frame rails to keep it in a horizontal line with the crank nut . Only way I see it working with any winch is if the winch is mounted between the frame rails keeping the top flush or slightly below that point .
