Got some goodies last couple of days in the mail - courtesy of Landwrecker , he agreed to loan these parts from his '77 New Zealand 40 RHD for prototype work . Huge thanks to him , been looking for these for a long time !

If you notice in the last pic - the mounting holes in the spring clips are inline , not offset like the ones used in FJ45/55 rigs . These spring clips are 20 gauge , was hoping they were like the early style thicker ones but for now I can work on this version first . Mapping out a press die now to make a first prototype , hope to have something done by end of week . It's all going to be trial and error depending on steel alloy , still working on that part .

The starting handle is quite stout , should weigh it just for fun and that would tell me what alloy it is - feels like a fairly dense 60k carbon steel . The bend radius is quite short , will have to work out a better die to avoid flattening the inside of the radius on the final product .

I have these brackets. The one that goes on the bottle jack mount and the jack/crank handle brackets. I believe these are from a 45. From what I can tell from the EPC the bottle jack clip is the same but the jack/crank brackets are different.

Sorry different between the 40 and 45. But I don't think your setup is correct based on the way the clip mounts on the bottle jack mount. I can send you the EPC diagram. It's crap but it does show location.

Here's the EPC file.

Those style clips would be very difficult - they are made in a multi-fold machine that makes several steps at once - with hard spring steel stock . The late-model jack storage bracket could be done , maybe I'll add it later if there is a demand . Hasn't been good last couple of weeks here - between the blizzard , a lost/found/destoyed order of steel and my machinist buddy getting sick I haven't made a lot of progress . Trying to finish setting up the 30 ton and it's brake/die press tools as well as install the winch lift on it so I can move the bed . The small press is in pieces - we're modifying the angle of the knife on it so it takes a jig to machine it , taking up too much of my time .
Trying to get the prototypes done for the starting handle and it's storage clips pictured above .

What market is those late model clips/brackets from ? I'm guessing Middle East or Australia / New Zealand ?

Just to clarify - I'm shooting for the '69-'79 style starting handle "springs" or clips as shown in the EPC - the ones pictured are from a New Zealand market RHD 1977 FJ40 . It's a high possibility those vehicles received the later model post-'79 clips that are thinner than other markets . I'd prefer to make the thicker pre-'79 style at this time or at least start there .

Yeah, not sure where they are from. I can check EPC later. I'd be interested in the 79 - newer but I have never seen them and this picture sucks. They are different, however, or at least a different part number that the standard Jack handle bracket.

Getting closer to a prototype clip for testing , but need some opinions here -
The later model thin version of these clips may not work out - I'm a bit concerned they may bend open over time and cause a very heavy starting handle to become a loose object , potentially coming out or at least rattling around .

That said , would folks prefer the early model heavier clip vs the 20ga late model clip or does it matter to anyone to be period-correct on this part ?? I know for restorers , period correct is a must to get top dollar - those folks may have to just scour the Earth to find originals and I wish them a lot of luck . But , to the common crowd interested in these parts - does it really matter ??

Finishing the press dies hopefully today and testing ...

No , the heavier metal isn't tougher to produce - but the late version multi-tool clip would be really tough since it carries both the starting handle and jack extension rods . The early style starting handle clip is very similar to the early single jack extension rod clip - just different dimensions . They are the same shape as the clips I have here now , just thicker material .

I'd be interested in a heat shield for PS for 79. I have one for a manual box. I'll check the EPC tomorrow on years tomorrow night.

On the hand crank conversation. Overpaid for these of fleabay tonight. Supposedly from a late 68

Yeah, came with the Jack handle brackets as well. I'll post them up later tonight.

$_57.webp Here's how the were sold. Jack Handle bracket and jack handle clips.

On the PS heat shield there is only one part number for 01/1979 to 07/80. There is also one to later models.
