So I have an opportunity to buy this at about $6500, no lockers. Rides nice. Needs valve cover gasket, ps pump, egr work, birf rebuild, the usual stuff. I think it's a fair price (actually have never paid this much for an 80). However, my plan would not be to keep it but to tend to the basic maintenance needs and sell it. It's a west Texas car with no rust, no accidents, and I would be th3rd owner. Interior is cloth and very clean. No roof rack or hitch. So my question is if this thing would sell at $9k to $10k after baseline given prices are skyrocketing.

Few more.

^^ My bad. Then I don't know what the hell is a poverty package. Maybe it's a "poor fool can't pull anything" package. Yeah been on the fence about this one.

Poverty pak

Cloth seats
No sunroof
No flares
No running boards
No sliding rear windows
No roof rack

No third row, no factory tint, and all of the above found only on '94 US iterations.

Late model, US 'poverty packs' included flares, as all were equipped, and more a 'rarity'.

True Poverty Packs were (mostly, as far as I've seen) HZJ80s with MTs, PT cases, bench seats, no carpet, and (in most cases) barn doors.

That said, manual cloth seats are worth a $1k premium for those 6' and over, so a desireable offering, nonetheless.

I have a hard time agreeing with ▲that▲. As a tall guy and have owned both in the past I dont see manual/cloth value. You can have the best of all and a much lower cost option with power, leather, and LandTanks seat extension being a tall owner.

I do like the low mileage but with the needed list of repair also shows a poor level of past maintenance.

As an complete newb that would love to have a basic, lowish mileage 80 to thump around in, I would be willing to pay something in that range, but only if I knew it had the listed maintenance, headgasket and phh done. I wouldn't hurt if maybe the bottom end got a peek at as well.
I suspect that the cost of the headgasket work might price it out of the desired profit though.
For me, not having a hitch is more of a premium than cloth seats. Hitches scare me. People seem to think that they can pull anything that will fit the ball. Did it never have a hitch or has it been removed?

Yeah, HG is a totally different ball game. Never came with the roof rack and hitch according to the window sticker.

Maybe I am making it out worst than it is. There is some maintenance records, it's just that this sits in a barn only to be used in the winter.....if needed. Actually found out recently that it runs on fully synthetic oil. Maybe too thin? Birfs are not dripping either, just can't find if it's ever been done. Power steering pump....egr.....it happens. Belongs to a very standup gentleman.

Maybe it's the combination of the manual seats, that sit lower and extend further back, and have (butt dyno....literally, in this case) a more comfortable seat pan, with increased headroom for sunroof-less optioned.

Have had all and even with extenders, new foam, and new leather seat covers, never felt as good as the late model, 'poverty pack' driver's seat.

My statement was tongue in cheek, valuation pulled out of thin air, since I really had no business posting, in the first place.

Im finding super clean cloths for $300-400. And given they are 100s of lbs lighter than leather / offer more legroom/ hold up better than leather/ dont cause legburn baking in summer sun / and add both horsepower and torque.......

id agree with Delancy that they are a bang for the buck no brainer mod for those who eat alot of donuts and still maintain torque and hp!!

its worth the 6g if you have the time and knowhow to get all the maintenance done yourself. resale will likely be what you will endup having into it.
