my back sucks and I rarely get a good night's sleep, even at home.
While I've yet to use one, the reviews for the Exped Megamat from people I know who have them often include the words "At least as comfortable as my mattress at home, probably better". Pretty sure it also has the highest R-value of any sleeping pad. One is 4" thick and another is 6" thick.

I’ve got the biggest Exped megamat and it is awesome. Last year was my first trip using it and I felt great. We use it as an extra guest bed in the house when needed and everyone likes it.

Check prices on Bobliesure if you order. I think it’s a German site no taxes, free shipping, arrived in a few days, and was already cheaper than any sites stateside.

when did you break down and get one?

I have had the rv5 a little over 13 years and mine has been great. But like pacer said its large to store. You would think it was a 4 room tent the with the size of the bag. Over the years i have had only one problem and it was user error. I did have to replace the storage bag as mine got too much sun and fell apart. I would get a good ground mat for it. I used to use tarps but went to the oztent mesh floor to protect the thick floor.
I bought this from another mud member on my way to relic run about 4 years ago.

After getting home, had to pitch the tent in back yard, hose down and dry out. Hot ass humid weekend too. The joys of tent camping!
^^ This.

I've never really been a camping type, but really considering breaking down and getting one of the T4 overlands...at $429 right now, it seems like a bargain.

How cold was it last year at Fall Crawl? Just trying to plan on the best sleeping options for either tent or back of rig if I come alone.

I like the look of the Hest memory foam pad at REI too in the 30" wide option that could fit in the truck too...my back sucks and I rarely get a good night's sleep, even at home. Hoping this would help a little bit at least.
Haven't tried the Exped, but I have had really good luck with the 2.5" self inflating pad from REI. The larger Thermarest (3.5"?) was even nicer but I was cheap and the REI was in sale. Not too big or heavy when packed up.

Great to hear the review....since I'm not really into camping, I never realized that there was both the foam cell and air combo...I've always hated the traditional self or pump inflated air only mattresses.

Looks like REI is actually quite a bit cheaper than the Bobliesure site...guessing our economy right now has everything out of whack. REI is $259 for the xl/long 10 model while Bobliesure is $432 for the same one.

In a perfect world, I'd love a little trailer to tow and then sleep in, but I don't see that happening anytime soon and don't really have a place to store one. The RTT is so bulky, I really don't want that up there when out wheeling for the day, so most likely going with the Gazelle Hub 4 overland to sleep in, but if the weather is hateful, I could always fit in the back of the 80 and use the tent for storage to unload the truck some.

All of this said, I need to make sure that I can be off that weekend before I go buying anything!~!!

@ETCruiser that was my thinking with the RTT. Lot of weight up too plus if you break out on the trail well guess what that’s where you live now 🤣. For general trail rides or camping trips I think they’re awesome.

We’ve got a Coleman queen size inflatable cot and a Japanese mattress topper deal on top which has been pretty comfy.

I love my gazelle, plus whit my usual state I’m not climbing any ladders.
I don't know...you were able to get home after that spring run at GER...pretty impressive given the rocket fuel that you were sipping with Bobby until 6:xx a.m. +!

I definitely see the RTT as a great option as an overland type unit, but I want to wheel a little harder than that and even my Front Runner was almost a hinderance unloaded at Coal Miner.

It was in the low 40s last year at night.

I was comfy with my inflatable mattress and had a nice dbl sized sleeping bag as a blanket. Slept in house pants with a loose tshirt and it was plenty.again just in case i have my lil buddy heater just to make sure i am comfy.

If you went up early it was in the 20s and windy the first night. I actually had to get in my sleeping bag for once. Even sitting at the fire our backs were freezing.

Man that was a cold night, buddy heater was cranking all night. even during the day was pretty chilly

@TTViper good thing @DC470 didn't decide to sleep in the middle of the road that night.

Let’s start up this discussion thread for Fall Crawl 2023.

Official Dates: Friday October 27th - Sunday October 29th.

Location: 980 Cove RD, Gore, VA 22673

Registration: Expected to open for all in the 2nd half of August. We will make an update when we have a more specific date.
Reminder: We’ve been told we can’t be bringing in obvious dump loads of fire wood. Last year was pretty damn cold. The Cove sells wood but it’s very expensive. Be prepared.

Who’s going? Who’s excited? What’s on the menu? Who’s going to be attending for the first time? This is the right place to ask questions and plan ahead.
I hope that I can get a spot, heard this filled up rather quickly last year. If I can get a spot, this will be my first time attending, very excited

ill keep ya in the loop, we'll get you in!

Just ordered the Gazelle T4 Overland on their site...$429.00 with free shipping and no taxes. Amazon had it for $401.xx, but added tax, so the same in the end.

This is going to be a slippery slope!
