I'm upping this thread because I'm surprised to see numerous posts stating that it's not good for the engine to go lower than 650rpm idle speed.
Actually the 1971 F engine FSM states the idle speed is 500rpm (except for the US but I guess it's for emission?).

Even the 2F FSM states 650+-50rpm (except ECE and US....) so should be fine to run at least as low as 600rpm?
After decades with a carb that would not idle under 900rpm what a pleasure to have it set at 530rpm currently... I still needs to get used to it, at every red light I think I stalled because I can't hear my engine anymore xD
Oil pressure seems good at idle, stays around the 2/3 mark as always.
Alternator not energizing is a true issue, it's not always the case, I think if it was charging when getting down to idle it stays energized but otherwise will not start charging. Although I have no issue with blinkers I noticed the honk would pull down the V low enough that it does not produce any sound (except the relay clic), small issue.
The engine braking is just astonishing with this idle speed, it's a true pleasure offroad and feels a lot more confident. On road you can do some eco-driving using a lot less your brakes xD
I calculated that with my 1974 with the first version of the H41 with 5.3 first gear, 2.3 transfer, 3.7 diff and 500rpm idle, it would theoretically idle in low first at 1.6kph / 1mph.
So, why not following Toyota spec on a F engine?
