Thanks Ben! I think if anybody is gonna do a SAS on a 5th gen it should be you. It's only the next logical step in your bad ass build. Is this something Luke could do - does he do that type of fabrication? I say DO IT. In the end it's only money and sheet metal :)

Luke does it and we have talked. I plan to do the sas but his recommendation was to beat the ifs up first (get some money out of it before ripping it apart). Don't really know how long I can wait. Wanting it more capable always seems to be something on my mind. Lol should have done it your way and got the 80 first!

yes, yes he does....

i think you should do it while you can get decent money for your ifs stuff... :steer: :grinpimp:

Who makes those steps? I never would have guessed they weren't up to slider duty, are they steel?
They look like OEM option. Not totally sure if they made them for the 5th gen too, but you can get the same steps on FJCs and Tacomas. Definitely not sliders, but a lot better than running boards.

Yeah they're aftermarket, made by N-Fab. I sold the OEM running boards and bought these as they look a lot better. They won't work as a rock slider since they bolt to the body, same place as factory running boards. N-Fab also sells the real sliders too, but they cost twice as much and I don't need sliders for this rig - not yet!

Back to the Land Cruiser! Since this year's drought has caused Folsom Lake to become Folsom Pond, my buddy and I went to do a "mini overland" trip on the freshly exposed terrain. Pretty fun believe it or not, exploring what was once a lake bed. Weather was miserable but it made for some more interesting wheeling.

The downside of being your own photographer - you never get action shots, just posing :)

Looks like fun to me, and that's a nice looking 4Runner.

I have to say..... I really like your truck! When I first saw what you were doing to it and talking Monstaliner, I was skeptical. You have done a fantastic job on your truck, improving it all the time in a "balanced" way. All the changes you make carry the theme throughout. You have done a great job of tracking your changes and mods so the rest of us can follow along. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery....

I hope to do some of the same mods to mine as you have to yours. Mine will not be as extreme, as my needs are considerably different, although, I can always wish it was....

Great job!
I will keep watching!

Thank you sir, appreciate it! I know many folks here like to keep the OEM look but as you can tell from my build, I don't. I like it loud and different :) I realize it's not everyone's cup of tea but I still try to keep it tasteful. My wife and my close buddies know how weird I am so I always ask them for opinions first since I consider them "normal" people. And speaking of which, my wheels are getting pretty scratched up from the rocks, might be time for a new wheel color!

WOW!! What an awesome rig... this is some serious motivation!!

Tiny update! I'll get some pics when it's all done and painted. Still need to clean up my booger welds. Or as my high school welding teacher would say, bird turds on a fence post :flipoff2:

Bought this:

And made this (4x4Labs DIY kit):

POOR MAN'S ROOF RACK

Summer's coming and that means long weekends, warm weather and camping trips! When I camp, I like to be next to a body of water weather it be a small creek or a lake. Camping in the desert is not my cup of tea. I've been wanting to pick up a kayak since last summer. Well I finally pulled the trigger on a local Craigslist deal. Scored this 14' Wilderness Pamlico 145 tandem kayak for a great price.

So of course I need a way to carry it on the truck. As you can see from my pics, I tossed the factory rack when I was doing the paint. So, I picked up a used set (eBay) of the Gamiviti gutter mounts (8x of their 30-60 mounts). These things are rock solid! For the time being I decided to run some simple load bars. Went to a local metal shop and picked up 4x 5ft pieces of 1/8" 2x1 tubing. Bolted it up and done! Best of all, the whole thing fits in my garage with about an inch to spare.

Eventually I'll go to a flat platform rack but this fits my short-term needs for this summer :)

Seriously, I never really liked the de-flared look and the thought of de-flared plus bedliner would usually make me completely uninterested. Your truck is amazing and the level of quality is something I can only hope to achieve with my build!

Lucky SOB!

Thanks! Don't rule out the Monstaliner stuff. It's changing the game of roll-on bedliners. The days of nasty looking crumby bedliners that come in black only are gone! I think it's the perfect solution for a rig that sees a lot of trail use as regular paint wouldn't last.

CDL SWITCH

Here's a cool little accessory. I already had a CDL switch made from on old hazard switch but it didn't look cool. Found a member making these neat little aluminum covers so I bought one ($15) and glued it on. Looks great! He also sells the entire switch for $30 if you need the whole thing.

That rear passenger side interior can holder is awesome! I looked on the 4x4 Labs website but couldn't find it. Do you have a link?

Luke's website is awful, doesn't advertise anything he builds and sells. You'll have to call or email to get more info. He sells DIY kits as well as finished and powder coated.
