So, can you reinstall the original ws hold down nuts with the large plastic handles or will they not clear the box? and I may have missed it but, how much is the box?[/QUOTE

300 bones!!!
Great piece, but very spendy!

How is the squeak rattle factor with one of these?

There is no squeak or rattle factor, none, not in all the years it has been installed.

Hmmmm...now who makes billet knobs?

I got some really nice billet ones off fleabay a while back. I like that ones I got because they have Land Cruiser written on the face of the knob.:D Definatly not OEM but so is alot of other items on my 40.

Dave,
I was not able to find the parts by name but after finding the receipt, i tracked it down with the part #
there are new and used versions..I purchased the used ones and were in great shape
120-08B
or
120-08B-U
I also had the ends of the dash pad as "caps"

Thanks for the info . I ordered a set and they came today. One was very good and the other was not so good. Thinking to send one back and see if they will trade.
Dave

I have a couple of questions if anyone is still following this thread. In the initial installation where he removes the dash pad I do not see the two black pieces that look like some defrost deflectors but they show up before he installs the dash box. Is that what those pieces are, defrost deflectors? My non-USA rig does not have the pad or a heater/defroster so I don't know how that would impact installation. However, I should note that shipping would be out of the question so today I picked up some sheets of cardboard and will be mocking up a box and then figuring out how to fabricate one. I have also reviewed numerous posts on what to do about butchered dash panels, of which I have one. I think in combination with the dash box I could come up with cleaner cup holders. But my quick and dirty ones sure are handy.

Thank you, that can go away. It looks like from the pictures and my measurements the box is about 4" tall at the windshield side, about 5-6" wide on the top and about 2-3" at the bottom. Do you have one you can throw a yo-yo on to confirm? Also, what is the shipping weight of your rain gutter package. I have seen it several times on various posts and it appears to the be a very viable option. The price fits the no tax limitations, so long as the weight doesn't go over eight pounds at which time I get hit with 45% tax.

I no longer sell the rain gutter kits.

I can measure my Dashbox tomorrow. PM if you remember otherwise I'll try to.

Bummer there wasn't enough business to keep the rain gutters going. Looked like a quality product at a good price. I suspect it could be that we are seeing the end of the FJ40 fascination. It happens.

That wasn't it, they were coming from Pakistan and I stopped doing business with that vendor.

Interesting, must have been a headache getting all that customs stuff worked out. Sure is a PITA to get stuff down here, not to mention more expensive now. The President discourages people from bringing clothing and the like down using the various forwarding companies in business and recently added another $42 to the shipments which allow 8 lbs under $400 for $40. If over weight or value the load gets hit for 47% tax.

Went to Coral the other day and bought three sheets of cardboard for $2.13. Two sheets are 1.5mm thick and the other is just under 1mm thick. I figured the thinner one would be easier to work with for the covers over instrument cluster and glove box. The steel yard I bought the 2 X 4 X 4mm thick piece to make my rear bumper also lists a piece 150mm (6") X 50mm (2") and that might work. I have also seen a few places that look like they do some fab some I will check them out and see what they have for material, shear and press brake and decide what to do. I think mine is a little bigger than the unit in this thread. Even if they were still available the shipping and taxes would be too high. No, I'm not going to make more than one for my rig.

It wouldn't let me edit. The 6" X 2" piece would be 2mm thick (.080). Does that look like about how thick your boxes are?

Making some good progress. I decided to go with 8" X 2" X .08" C channel instead of rectangular box tubing. Tomorrow I will cut the steel for the "trough" locations. I suspect they will not deform as easily as the cardboard pattern does. Should be a challenge.
