Multi rated coils can have many different names but it's basically a coil with more than one spring rate, now all multi rate coils are not the same. It depends on the engineer what he is trying to achieve. Some can be more focused for full droop length for max articulation or some can be more focused for ride quality. I can tell you that we offer two series of multi rate coils, the Flexi series and the VT series. The Flexi series were originally designed for max articulation on stock weight or light 80's. Based on what you are saying you have in the rear i would not recommend the Flexi series but the VT series, as this is better for that amount of constant load. Not familiar with Skyjackers shock valving but shock valving is extremely important to be dialed for the 80 series as it's a heavier vehicle. I would recommend you change your rear coils to the VT series to C97-145VT. That coil will bring you back a rake.

I'll take some pictures soon and send you a message with a few questions. Because I saw someone today with an 80 that had no bumper but his springs looked loaded up, and mine dont.

So I'm interested to see what you think about it.

I still find this to be a confusing thread to read through at the end of the day. Some people call these progressive, and some people call them dual rate.

I have the 3" Flexi 612V/613V and my 94 weighs 5500lb with a full tank of gas and me inside. With 440lb of camp gear in the back at 5990lb it still has rake forward. But I've only got a BIO bumper with no winch, and just a factory rear bumper with no spare.

With nothing inside but my tool roll it definitely has a harsh ride, and I just changed all the shocks out to M95 Skyjacker monotubes, if anything they are a little soft so its a little floaty on the highway and I had to reinstall the rear sway bar. But it's very soft over the rocks which is nice. I'd be interested to see if it reacts like what half k cruiser was mentioning with the rocking in Moab. Looking forwarding to possibly making it out there next spring.

I find it crazy that these are considered "light load" springs because when I've had it loaded with people and had a lot of stuff in the back it suddenly rides like a totally different vehicle. But we are talking about an additional 800-1000lbs of stuff inside, maybe more. And that's not what the springs call for. I'd like to go with the 2.5"VT setup to get a little less lift and maintain long travel, but supposedly they can handle even more weight? It would be even worse. :bang:
Shocks ultimately control ride quality. What were you running before you just changed the shocks?

No one else has ever called these coils harsh. That would have been your shocks.

Nitro dobinsons. At least one was leaking. I just happen to win the drawing for free shocks from skyjacker this spring at Lonestar Jamboree, so that was lucky.

It's likely I need to change some bushings. They aren't super bad but have some cracks in some of them. And I've got Eimkeith RAM and PCK.

I've had the 80 for a year now and it had the 3" flexi on it when I bought it, not sure how long it was on there before I bought it though.

This is pulling up to a spot with 440lb of gear in the back so it doesn't have the typical rake. But look at the front coil.
