happy anniversary to myself. :D

one year ago today i set out for Ushuaia. i just posted a long thank you over on my blog but i want to say thanks to everyone who viewed this thread, sent me good wishes, offered to help out and just helped me feel apart of Mud.

in the next few days i plan to post some post trip info, costs, mileage, time frame etc for people to use for reference. i'll even post up a few pics of my truck in her current guise.

Romer thanks for putting it as a sticky and everyone else for following along.

sincerely. respectfully.

Many a wasted hour spent reading Dave's blog and looking at those pictures at work. More than a few times I've shown this thread to people to explain why 80's are so great. Oldie but goody.

So this post is probably more of a chat item but I figured I'd post it up here. I've kind of disappeared from the cruiser world for that last few years. I think detailing my daily adventures for 6 months to a few thousand people made me pull back into my shell once I got home. I've still been using Ruby and last fall did a 800 mile dirt only trip across Utah corner to corner. unfortunately she will soon be for sale. however there is a very good reason. if any of you would like to follow along on my next adventure i promise to try and make it as entertaining as possible.

http://canguroracing.com/ is the new website.

Myself and 5 other cruiserheads will be racing the Baja 1000 this year. I'll be doing most of the blogging and a few of us will be posting up pics. many of you know the other members of the team. Everyone should know Kurt Williams of Cruiser Outfitters as he's the best supplier around. Darren Webster, Marc Van Tassel, Will Carroll, and Jason Call round out the team. I feel it an honor to join them and can't wait for our first race. Right now the site is slow as we're still coming out of winter here in SLC and getting out to test and practice has been rough. We debated for a long, long time about racing a cruiser but when it was all said and done we settled on a Class 5 VW for a number of reason. Romer i realize this maybe chat and if so I apologize but i know that despite my absence i still feel a bond with many of you that followed me on my trip and contributed to this thread and thought I'd keep you apprised of my next adventure. i couldn't be more excited but i know when Ruby Claire finally hits ebay it will be a very sad day for me.

Congrats on Living yet ANOTHER DREAM that most of us dream of!!!! I just got back from the 250 and I helped out Team MasterCraft last November in the Bay of LA for the 1,000. Good luck to you guys and I will be following your progress!

I read that the 250 course was brutal this year. We were actually in Bay of LA in November as well. Actually ended up wrenching on Joe Bacal's LX470 a little bit while we were there.

Ha, small world! Yeah, we thought Bacal was sunk after sitting in BOLA for about 13 hours. When I got home and found out he finished the race I was just amazed! In Baja it's ALWAYS better to be Lucky than Good.....

Yup I took those around 8am and then we headed North of town to fish at Gringos Camp.

I can't wait to read up about your race vehicle! What class will you be racing in? I would offer my support but I can't committ now since I will be taking 2 weeks off for a Europe trip at the beginning of October.

romer if this is against the rules say the word and i'll delete it. it's time for ruby to move on to a new home. i've really only driven her a half a dozen times in the last 8-9 months. once on a 1000 mile dirt only corner to corner trek diagonally across utah over labor day and then baja last november plus a few days up skiing and some sunday drives. she deserves someone who will use her more appropriately.

x3 we are in awe looking at that image. Please oh please make that available in hi-res when you get back. I'm thinking about putting the LandCruiser logo on it and then printing it on a large inkjet, laminating and mounting on gator board to mount in my garage. It will be my own motivator poster.

@NLXTACY like you love the image. Hit the hi res link but NLA. Can you post if you have it? Pretty cool motivator.

This is totally chat and my apologies up front to the admins, (feel free to delete this if appropriate) but after spending a few too many late nights searching the forum and social media without much success I thought I'd just ask. I'm curious if anyone on MUD currently owns my old truck. Or knows of it's whereabouts. I sold it to a guy up north of Seattle. He had intentions of doing the Pan-Am as well. The radiator failed a few months after I sold it to him. Fortunately, in my mind, a spare was part of the purchase but the relationship kind of turned sour after that and I lost touch with him. I don't venture much outside of the 200 forum much anymore so it was good to pop in here again.

I've got no idea who owns the truck now (but I will keep a look out for it around Bend) Was cool to see this thread bumped...it was one of the great threads that added to my motivation (and planning) for a South America trip. Buy a cruiser, do some work, drive it somewhere awesome :)

Good luck tracking it down.

"Buy a cruiser, do some work, drive it somewhere awesome"
That's a fantastic motto. Even if it's just an hour away
