Ditching the 383 stroker? (2 Viewers)

I wanted to follow-up here and share some thoughts on the Holley Stealth Ram Multi port fuel injection set up I put on the 383 stroker.

Installing it was pretty easy and the directions for wiring it up were helpful and easy to follow. Programming the engine module was a little tougher. The software from Holley was only compatible with Windows 2000 or older versions, so I had to buy an old computer with Windows 2000 just to download the soft ware, disappointing. Holley provides a number of base map/tuning options to start with. I tried several different base programs and none of them ran correctly. After playing with the tuning parameters some I decided the tuning was more than I had time for to learn for this set up. I took it to a shop and gave them my computer to tune it. The shop did a great job and had it back to me running good. They said they had to change every parameter in the base map to get it running well.

After all of this I drove it for about a year and then decided to ditch the 383 for a 2uzfe manual transmission set up I have been dreaming about.

What I would share with others who might consider the Holley Stealth Ram set up is steer away. I would suggest a newer self learning tbi setup. The Holley Stealth Ram, performed fine but getting there was costly and I expect a newer tbi set up would perform just fine for a land cruiser and cost a lot less.

Good to know. Hope your new setup works great for you.

I’m going a different route. I’d pretty well given up on efi aspirations... till I came across a Tuned Port Injection setup with Painless Harness for a song. I’ll be referencing this thread and many others as I try to wrap my head around all this.

If anyone has any input on distributor, fuel pump, surge tank, or otherwise, let me know. 1987 MAF TPI with stock computer... onto 1972 four Bolt main, 350.

I should add I’ve driven around in the Texas heat with no vapor locking issues yet - my mechanical fan is a big one off a caddy - it pushes plenty of air under the hood - I like having the surge tank up near the front where it gets some cooler air.

My son bought the new hyper fuel module for his early bronco, he’s going to also be running the same EFI is me it’s a nice unit, it seems a bit taller than the one I have not quite as big around.
Can you show how you mounted your power surge? Is this the factory overflow mount repurposed? Any pics would be awesome.

Let me get some photos this week - here is the only one I had handy - I did move the overflow to the drivers side.

Thanks. I measured it tonight. It looks like it is about 1 CM larger in diameter than the stock tank.

do you remember running a longer boot to reach around the power surge fully?

I bought a Non US spec overflow that I am going to mount on the radiator mount. The should workout great. All due to finding your picture on google images! Being in a high rise makes it much more difficult to fabricate anything. I have no where to cut grind and paint anymore, so this solution works out great!

I had completely forgot about pics - it’s been a while since I did this but my surge tank fit in the overflow bracket almost perfectly. I did add a piece of rubber between the tank and bracket to take up some slack.
I moved the stock overflow to the drivers side and kludged up a bracket using some worm clamps. It’s still a work in progress but the last year has just kept me sidetracked.
