Following up on this. Amayama has sent me an email saying that import duties and taxes will be applied when the packages reaches destination. Anybody know what the import duties and tax rates are?
I ordered from Amayama a few months ago but don't recall any duties or tariffs. Of course now I can't find any emails from the shipping agent...

I'm confused about the "when the package reaches destination" part. Will it be like a COD, where the delivery person shows up and demands payment in exchange for the package?

I'm hoping that Amayama is just washing their hands of any responsibility of possible customs fees by informing me and that I might get hit up with them. It's really not cool that the purchaser (me) gets no advanced notice of the amount and the carrier will either hold my package ransom or just bill for the fees after they leave it on my door step.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s just a boilerplate warning for all international shipments to cover their ass.
I purchased a $485 lithium ion battery pack directly from a factory in China (via DHGate) and I didn’t have to pay any extra custom or duty fees upon delivery - though the fine print said I would need to.

Just following up here, On June 6th Amayama sent me another email saying :

Hello,
There was a significant miscalculation in the UPS shipping estimate to your country that unfortunately means that the shipping for your order was undercharged.
Could you please consider paying the outstanding amount of USD 22 in order to move on with the shipping process?

We can ship the order by Imternational E-pacekt without any additional fee.

Thank you

I told them since the transaction was already complete I did NOT want to send them more money. They then changed the carrier to E-packet, an Asian company. They shipped on 6/7 and I was hit up with a minor international charge of some sort for .54 cents. And finally the package arrived in good condition about 2 weeks later.

So the moral of the story is that if you need it now, don't order from Amayama. Pay the extra money and order from Mcgeorge or another online source that can get it to you in less than a week.

I've ordered a couple of times from Amayama and not had to pay any additional taxes or duty fees. I've also ordered from Megaparts with the same experience. I recall seeing something that inbound shipments to US have to have a value over $600 for any taxes/duties. What I did experience with Amayama is that parts will show as available, they quoted shipping, I'd pay them and a few days later, I was notified that the part is not available. I then started asking them when placing the order, to confirm availability prior to asking for payment. Adds a few days.

@g-man glad you got your stuff. My only time ordering from Amayama it took a looooong time to arrive. Around 3-4 weeks. I was not hassled over customs or any of that. I wonder if there are different international trade agreements between the US and Japan, and the US and UAE ... Partsouq stuff arrives in under 5 days every single time. I find that incredibly wild.

Agreed. I usually use Partsouq but they didn't have the item in there inventory and US dealerships were killing the deal with shipping rates. Amayama took about 3 weeks i think.
