Ben do you have a final weight of the rear bumper plus carrier?

Sorry if I missed it somewhere else in the thread.

Has anyone not been able to mount their Hi-Lift on the rear bumper? The base of my li-lift will not fit because it is about half a inch too wide. @benc do they make hi-lifts with a slightly wider base than other ones?

Same boat here...just hadn't followed up with @benc yet

Yes, the HL-485 will fit and the extreme fits as well.
I didn't realize there was a cheeper version (HL-484) that does not fit when I was designing the tray.
You will need the base plate off the HL-485. Hi-Lift Parts & Services - Hi-Lift Jack Parts | Hi Lift Jack Company

Right at about 160-170lbs.
After the factory hitch and crossmember are removed your looking at a net gain of around 100 lbs.

That's awesome Ben. So, pull the 3rd row and it's like a 20 lbs net gain.

Ben - thanks for providing the weight.

Are you making a right hand / passenger side swing out for the tire, or just the driver side? We really like the spare tire on the passenger side for two reasons....easier to operate right handed, and easier to open as it goes out into the sidewalk when parked, not out into the road!

Trying to plan the build of a recently acquired '06 to replace our '99.

Thanks!

I have not done one yet but i can, there would be a slight up charge from the laser cutter for the one off arm ($50-75) but all I have to do is bend all parts opposite of the driver side arm.

Just remove the base plate (it's only held on by a cotter pin) and store it in the back with the rest of your recovery gear.
Discovered after I removed mine because the rattle was getting to me... ;)

That would work with most mounts however with mine there is a tray that allows the base of the high-lift to be bolted down and locked, this was actually to prevent the base rattle.

Ben, please let me know when you're getting close to shipping on the bumper so I can send the remaining balance over.
I also have to update you on shipping address.
I'm in Denver Mon-Thu this week and should be back in CA by Sat.
Time to start researching a good powder coater in southern CA!

Ben, I don't know if this has been asked, is there an option to tilt the spare tire away so that the hatch can be used without opening the swing out? The more I think about daily use, the more I think i'd want this as an option. I understand this adds cost, but seems like it might be worth it.

I can tell you that it would physically impossible unless the swingout was about 2-3' away from the hatch which would look horrible and cause it to be significantly weaker.

I had the same thought but if you look at how low the top half of the hatch starts, you'll realize there's no way.

Ben's latches are definitely a good compromise though. It's very easy to open and close compared to the other styles. Still not as easy as no swingout though. We have 2 huskies that live in the back and I worried I would hate the swingout but it's really not that burdensome.

Like @Ramathorn15 said, it would stick out way to far unfortunately.

Got the first tray with optional 2" receiver for bike rack.
The tray is aluminum and bolts down with counter sunk bolts for a nice smooth surface on top.
The tray is 24"x16" and will fit many different fuel cans, ice chests, ect.
There are cutouts for straps and the front edge is bent down for easy loading of heavier items,
It also allows the tray to function and a table when not loaded. Should have some pics tomorrow with bikes on it and mounted on an lx470.
