For the ones who had to powder coat their bumpers themselves, did you guys powder coat each piece individually or as one piece? I was going to get each piece painted individually but after putting it together, sliding those wings on without paint, it's a tight fit. So I plan on doing it as one piece. Is this how you guys did it?

Individually: wings, center section, end caps. so all the parts are coated.

If your end caps are fitting tight now, they will be really tight after depending on how many coats of PC ( 2 at least). When I welded the end caps they warped a little and needed a bit of a tweak'to fit. If yours are tight you might widen them now before PC

The bumper should be coated unassembled, when I build the bumper everything is clearanced for 2 coats of powder so everything fits together after coating. Did you clearance a the caps when you welded them together? If not you may have to redo the caps or I could weld some together with the proper clearance or send you out the pieces.
Let me know.

@Manhattan @abuck99 Thanks guys. I'll make some adjustments to those areas that slip together and do each piece individually.

......Which probably adds confirmation to why you're not offering DIY kits any longer. :(

(I clearanced mine, but the heat from the tig warped em' a little. My fault. I should have welded them while mounted on the bumper instead of stand alone with a shim snugged between.)

@benc Not 100% sure on that. I plan on taking them to the powder coaters tomorrow at lunch time. I'll do a test fit before I do and make sure it will clear. Worst case scenario, if I get it all back from the powder coaters and it doesn't work out, I'll hit you up for some new caps.

Powdered pre assembly. No figment issues, but I didn't order a DIY kit.

Do you remember the specs of those bolts so I can order some stainless bolts as well?

Just a heads up to everyone running this bumper! I just looked at this pic and remember now I have to replace those 4 black oxide allen head bolts w stainless ones. Mine are pretty rusted after 1 year in place!
I'm not in any way bashing Ben's stuff! I just always knew those would not last and kept putting off on replacing them till the other day when doing something in there and noticed how things were! If it stays it will pass to the bumper steel!
This is for the guide bolts.

To answer my own question, the 4 bolts that connect the center beam to the frame brackets are 3/8-16 x 3/4".
I'm sorry but didn't see this earlier! I didn't even check what those bolts were! Just grabbed whatever matched the head size and length.

No worries. I pulled the bumper off to fab a new solenoid mount for my Smittybilt so it was easy to match the bolts. I just posted it in case anyone else needs that info.

I had a chance to stress the bumper this past weekend. I have to say "stress" because I wasn't technically off-road... well, unless I can call my backyard off-road. To make room for an addition, the contractor said "We'll have to remove those two trees." I said "I got this."

I couldn't square up with the trees (more like 10' tall shrubs, 3" trunks), so the pull was probably 40-45 degrees offset. I was about 30' back. The winch - a Warn 9500ti - definitely strained. It didn't sound like it was hurting, just slowed down. The front end (new Ironman TBs) dipped a couple inches.

I listened to the tree and winch, but really watched the bumper - watching the gaps around the top and side edges. Nothing. No movement, no deflection. Nothing. I know, what'd I expect. Still, that was a s***ton of load - and a side load too.

The bumper is as solid as Ben promised and my track record of doing more landscaping, than vehicle recovery, with winches is in tact.

Winched this bad boy off the road 2 weeks ago. Straight on pull. Bumper did not move.
