so.... which holes does the 2 long screws go in? I am guessing the outside 2 screws on the transfer case mount? anyone?

I don't have 2 long bolts. All my bolts are the same length, except for 2 short ones. I would call and ask, seems they changed the hardware a bit since I bought mine.

Bummer... finally got around to install the skids on mine, and got the front 2 sections on fine, however the 3rd section hits my Borla Cat-Back... I guess the borla's piping is lower than the stock muffler. Will have to figure this out.

@benc , any best guess on when these will be available to order? Leaving on a big trip (hopefully a year in Europe if the container shipping meltdown is solved) in June and wondering if I might be able to get these here in time…

@Joe422 , if you cannot solve the skid/borla interference I might be interested…

I'm guessing that there's no list to be on here for a set of aluminum skids ... rather, one should keep checking the website? Is that right?

That's how I understand it.

If you guys want to send an email through the contact form on the website we do have an ongoing list to notify people of when the skid plates will be available for purchase/in stock on the new e-commerce website we will be launching soon.

I did that about two months ago—heard nothing. Does that mean I’m on that list?

Just wanted to confirm before I order a set:
  • Are the square holes in the mid skid for greasing the drive line or does the skid need to be dropped for that?
  • Can the frame weight stay installed with the skids or does it need to be removed/relocated?
  • It seemed earlier in the thread some holes needed to be modified. Is that still the case or is everyone able to just bolt it right up?
Installed my skids today and figured I would answer my own question. The frame weight works with the skids with no issue.

One remaining question, is the consensus to use anti-seize on the bolts or some blue locktite? I thought I saw some mention of the bolts backing out from off-road use.

Just check them after any hard hits once in a while. People seriously use locktite on skid plates?

I think the instructions for the dissent front bumper said to use anti-seize for all the stainless steel hardware, so I used it for all the skid plate hardware too.

I think earlier in the thread someone had some bolts backing out/getting lost after washboard travel. I guess its not as big a concern if they are just regularly checked.

Anti-seize it is!

Hey @Joe422 did you ever find a solution for the Borla exhaust and these skids? I already have these skids but it’s time for my exhaust to be replaced. I’m hoping you’ve made the Borlas work because the Doug Thorleys seem to drone too much.

Unfortunately, no, I haven't made any solutions yet... Looking at the Dissent 3rd Skid, it is really beefed up right where the Borla hits... and to trim the skid for clearance, will dramatically negate the Skid's structural design. Im just running w/o the 3rd skid for now, still...

To get the borla/Dissent skid combo to work, I might have a muffler shop add a custom bend to clear the skid.

Its a bummer cus the Borla sounds great... subtle, but sound is right, and zero drone.

Is there a write-up / instructions to install these yet? @benc @kem

I'll figure it, but saving an hour of my time with a writeup would be sweet. :)

Finishing up some this weekend

Even though its pretty easy to figure out and I don't think it even necessitates step by step instructions - something that pointed to which bolts go where, that you have to expand the rear two holes in the frame, how the front bumper ties in, and the orientation of the nutplates would have saved me 45-60 mins of reading threads on here and piecing it together... and another 15-20 mins under the vehicle testing stuff out. Not the end of the world, but it will be a nice value add on a premium product. 🍻

Couple quick notes, incase anyone else starts at the end of the thread (like I do on long threads). I also used some larger grade 8 washers for the rear 4 bolts. You expand the rear most hole in the frame on each side to 11/16th with a step bit. Its not tough. Also the nutplates orient "up", not down through the holes.

These side mount on the front skid wouldn't make contact with the frame. Probably just manufacturing tolerances and no biggie, but I added some grade 8 washers so they weren't just floating.
