Anyone who has used the Dissent Aluminum Skid plate with an ARB Deluxe Bumper? Curious if there’s any gap between the ARB bumper and the Dissent skid plate..

None. At least not on mine.

Where are you looking for a gap?
Yeah a gap (if there is) from the front-end of dissent alum skid plate and the arb bumper. Do you have a pic on yours? I know if its a dissent bumper + dissent alum skid plate there is no gap and seem less look. I am actually finalizing the arb deluxe + dissent alum skid plate combo before pulling the trigger. Thanks.

This probably an unnecessary worry, but hey, we all our special skills...

The frame and steel on my track are in great, pretty much rust-free comdition. MANY of the fasteners are not; two of the three bolts holding on the transfer case shield broke despite a lot of caution and care removing them. Guessing the composition of the fasteners is leading to some form of sacrificial/galvanic corrosion. Thoughts?

Bringing it up because of the aluminim/steel interface. Both metals are very close to each other on the nobility scale, of course, but given the state of my fasteners I figured I'd ask. Is there any concern at all regarding how nice the aluminum plates and steel frame play with each other?

Very interested in the skid plates!
Bumping this question from 2018–very interested in these, but want to see if any of the early adapters have seen any galvanic corrosion between frame or hardware and aluminum skids.
As a former series LR guy, I know galvanic corrosion is a real thing...ugh.
My guess is if one avoids stainless hardware it shouldn’t be too bad, provided one’s frame paint is in good shape—but anyone seen any?

I’ve had them for 2 years or so and no galvanic corrosion. I live in the south but got smoked by salt in New Mexico driving through a snow storm.

Zero issues here. I'm about 2+ years in and my skids looks brand new with some cleaning (minus trail wear and some dents).

Good to hear. I was between this and Slee aluminum for skid plates, but the Slee requires drilling the frame and installing rivnuts, which I do not like. So I'm leaning towards Dissent now. I don't want to drill any holes. It would be nice if the Dissent website had drawings or photos to accompany each product so it's a little clearer what you're getting and what's included, the text only "menu" isn't super helpful.

Yeah thats always been his downside, not much details or instructions on his products. But the skids fit amazing and take maybe 20 mins to install. They are good to go.

So both of my catalytic converter’s were hacked off my truck the other day. Do the dissent skids provide good theft protection for the converters? What kind of coverage do they provide?

If anyone has photos that accurately depict coverage that would be much appreciated. I’ve seen the ones posted by Ben at the beginning of this thread but a little bit difficult to tell from the shots.

Also does anyone know which skid plates provide better catalytic protection, dissent or slee?

Just wanted to confirm before I order a set:
  • Are the square holes in the mid skid for greasing the drive line or does the skid need to be dropped for that?
  • Can the frame weight stay installed with the skids or does it need to be removed/relocated?
  • It seemed earlier in the thread some holes needed to be modified. Is that still the case or is everyone able to just bolt it right up?

Mid way during install I have a couple questions:

1. which holes do the 2 long screw go
2. which screw and support goes in the middle center hole of the front skid? there seems to be a space between the skid and the chassis.

Thanks!

I can answer the third one.

Yes you need to enlarge 2 holes, one on each side, to let the "nut with a plate" fit the screw through the hole. No big deal just a step drill bit, a spray of your favorite spray paint, and you are good to go!

It still doesn't ship with instructions?

Looks like the skids provide complete coverage of both cats. Is that accurate? Hard to be certain with the distortion of the wide angle shots.

Any concerns with heat dissipation?

Yes the holes are for servicing the drive line. It works well.

I don't have a frame weight so not sure.

Yes coverage on both cats. No heat issues for me.
