It came one while I was on a trail. Got back to a main road and the truck completely died on me. Suggestions? New alternator?

We were playing in mud... Could that kill the alternator, or are there other things I could investigate?

Spray a garden hose in it while it's running. How many miles? Do you know vehicle history?

173k miles. I just got home so I will try hosing it off after I charge the battery. I like the brush idea.. I will investigate. Thanks for the ideas.

After cleaning - test the output while running from the alternator. Low output - new or rebuild the alternator.

Haven't played with alternators much. Where do I test the output?

Thanks for the video to help figure out if the alternator was bad. It was not putting out anything when the truck was running. Took it off last night and had it bench tested at Autozone and Advanced Auto and they both said it was dead.

Just ordered this guy from Amazon.
