1x10 Microshift AdventX (really digging this groupo
How are you finding it? I've been looking at groupset options for a build, looking at Deore and SLX (couldn't decide on SRAM groupset, and I tried to price one up but it wasn't that competitive).

Mind you I've been chopping between 10, 11, and 12 speed builds (all 1x) but I'll get something worked out. I was planning on SLX 1x12, but I might drop to Deore 1x12 (only saves $100 or so though).

I'm not schooled in every nuance, but this groupset Just Works. And keep in mind the bike is brand new, I've done 30 miles tuning and adjusting and will do a long ride today. Been riding a Deore 1x12 for the past 1.5 years.
  • With the clutch engaged, shifts happen quickly and with an occasional thunk; with the clutch off, smooth as can be. It hasn't skipped or hesitated yet.
  • I'm liking the thumb shifter, it's not better or worse than other shifters I've used, just different; the throws are pleasantly short. I use inner bar ends on my flat bars and cannot shift up while on the IBE's, have to move my hand - but this is a niche thing and I'll try and adjust.
  • No drivetrain noise at all, so far.
  • The gear steps in the easier gears are a bit spaced out and I've had to slightly adjust my cadence and power to smooth out the big jumps.
On this last point, the Deore is very similar. As I have no interest in going fast, I'd prefer a cassette that has smaller jumps from 1-6, then bigger jumps in the top of the range. Alas, this does not exist...

TBH, on my Deore with the 11t-51t cassette, I haven't had to use 51, so I am happy with the 48t. And I will say that, so far, everything about the AdventX is good, not really any difference from the Deore in terms of feel, noise, shifting...

That does look a tempting price, so I had a look at a more complete groupset (which is what I need)

Comes in at AU$690 but there is freight in there and then the duties on this side (unless ebay/seller captures them) which can bump it up a bit. At AU$690 + $45 freight (definite) + another 10% for duties + anything else it starts to get up there, and add in some brakes (AU$300) and it gets up to the AU$1000 mark pretty quick.... which is probably not that much cheaper than I can get locally (or at least within Australia, LBS is still coming up with some numbers for me).

Can't go wrong with XT

oh i didn't realize you were over there. All bets are off, I'm sure you could find another grey market seller in your area

This thing is sweet. Time to install ridewrap and swap some parts around.

It looks like it's still a viable saving, just not 100% on the actual saving...

I’ve shopped this seller as well to much success. Local to Portland area
Good to know they're bona fide

Just priced up a full XT(ish) groupset - AU$1300 including cranks and brakes, so probably comparable to getting it in from the US overall.

The Aussie dollar is quite weak at the moment, so importing from the US is not that good (15 years ago, when it was parity it was great!).

24HRS of Old Pueblo Recap:

5 person co-ed team. I went 4th.

Lap 1: Single Speed

Lap 2: Geared: Night riding

Two douchenozzle “racers” who couldn’t just wait a couple of hundred feet for me to pull over to pass basically pushed me aside and off the single track and over my bars I went. Landed hard on my right side, shoulder and chopped up my hips on a big cholla. Spent ten minutes pulling fǔcking needles.

Busted up my deraileur and bent my hanger. Ended up getting it sort of in a position where I could keep the chain on the highest gear. Fun. 7 miles in the hardest gear going uphill.

Anyway, decent time regardless. Pushed hard as hell to finish up.

Final lap: beautiful riding day. I was the last to ride today…. Everyone else was already drinking beer. 😂😂 since I had to finish after 12pm, I pulled over and just chilled watching folks come by for about 35 mins.

Take-Aways:

I would definitely do this again with either myself and one other person or with two other people. Either alternating or chopping up the laps into groups. Guess I’ll need to figure this out for the future.

Any MUDders want to do a MUD 24HOP team next year?

With 5 people it was 4-5hrs between laps And during that time chaos ensues as well as cold hands and feet and body and an inability to get any real rest. I’d rather keep pumping.

I would definitely do this again single speed. This course is perfect for single speed. I was 32:18. Would have probably been happier with 32:19/20 if I continued riding SS.

It’s a fast course on a geared bike. Would be interesting to switch between bikes for a full 24hr run at the race.

Anyway, will definitely be doing this again next year.
I’m in, I love 24OP it has been a few years so need to get down again! SS + LC = team MUD

I’ve signed up for the pre-registration.

Registration is 10/6.

I’ve got one other person interested. Makes it a 3-person team. No category for that.

Need one more MUDDER for a MUD 4-person 24HOP team.

I'm trying to convince @TomEf

but there is a good chance we all just go camp and ride somewhere and get up to unorganized degeneracy
