Building a new trail while we've got time off over Christmas, trying to build stuff that's new to us. Good fun, but I dont think we've ever been this cold riding in the middle of an Australian summer.

It's rumored that there are shirts with sleeves that go all the way from the shoulder to the wrist that offer warmth when temperatures are low

It was warm today. Tomorrow it gets cold: high in low 50s. You laugh, but here's my sister's kid after his lacrosse game when the temp here was in the low 60s -- and his family lives in Castle Rock

So I rode for a while on the dirt in the warm weather. 25 miles. I wasn't sure whether I was clearing this 7" rock. I thought I might be dragging my rear wheel on it. So my buddy took these pics of my bunny hop to see.

And then on the way home I saw infrastructure dressed for a toga party

Sold my road bike that I've not ridden in nearly 12 months, which means I can now reorganise the shed to get some more storage space in.

Gone of to a guy who is starting out with Triathlons, so a good training bike for him.

I got two quick rides in over the holiday weekend. Beautiful x-mas day ride until hurricane type winds about blew me off the mountain.

Second day ride again amazing weather. A little winded at the top so stopped short of the rock pile and sat down on the trail, removed the shoes and grounded a while at the top.

What's the difficulty on the trails on Devil's Backbone and Bobcat Ridge? We do occasional Sunday drive type outings up that way beyond Masonville so I know right where you're riding, but I've never stopped at or ridden either of these.

Devils is pretty moderate, It's downfall is it has some pretty technical choppy rock sections through the mid section. Always busy at the start but if you make it back to India summer, there is never anyone there and its a fun flowing trail. You can ride it all the way to Horse tooth if up for it. There is a fee now tho, it is only my go to, because its 5 minutes away and has a lot of vertical changes so not too brutal. The jagged rocks tend to trash the bike tho.

Bobcat is a whole different animal. It is alot of vertical, the top now has a rock section that can be double diamond slower technical, its fun but I like a little faster ride myself. This sucker is all up, then all down, I even get winded on the downhill because its so long. Pretty cool built in wood planks in a few sport and overall not to technical. There is an optional loop that I only rode once, it was way too much vertical. There is never anyone on this trail(most walk a flat path at the bottom) and it is also Larimer but I don't think it if fee. If you want you ass kicked from some big vertical, this is for you.

Hall ranch(Lyons) is usually my go to but I have been laying off it because of the drive. It's very busy and has about everything. Free to park and if you haven't rode it I would suggest it. Alot of really technical sections that you can bypass.

Left the audio book at home and noticed all sorts of things
Another devils ride to the mid point, running low on daylight.
Chased the sun to the horizon

@OGBeno happy birthday bud! Looks like you enjoyed it.

Between bouts of wrassling a 40 harness out of the truck yesterday, Karen & I went for a spin through City Park. It was a much needed break. Took the Bob Jackson, the top tube feels so long compared to the upright old MTBs I’ve been riding recently.

Ran a new trail near Lyons this weekend, I have always drove right past to ride others. Heil Ranch from the picture rock side, a XC style moderate flowy trail with good steady elevation gains and all up, then all down. Nice change of pace for a good smooth ride. Couple options at the top or even go over into left hand canyon for a big ride..

and another scorched forest near Boulder.....

Staying busy on the trails with the warm weather. It will end soon. Another heil ride. Super fun flowing decent on a late weekday ride. Found out why the loop is called wild turkey trail. Huge group of wild turkeys passing thru. Biggest turkey I have ever seen hauling ass across the trail at the top.

Nice ride! Curious did you know what geo you wanted or did he help you decide what to build it as?

Very iterative process over 2.5 years.

He watched me ride for miles. He measured me.

Then we rode different off the shelf bikes that supposedly “fit” my height— Specialized, Giant, Canyon, etc, and compared their geos with my body. We discussed how each of the off the shelf options felt during rides, different situations, etc. I didn’t realized there is so much variation between different brand geos in say a “small” or a “medium” frame.

Then I rode different crank lengths and we agreed on 160mm as ideal for my body and leg length. Stem discussions, stack height discussions, seat post height discussions. We went back and forth for quite a while with slight modifications to really dial it in.

And then he built the frame and that was pretty much it.

Here is a screen shot of my geos from a video he made explaining it to me.

For bikes like this do they calculate an effective top tube and seat post length? The "top tube" horizontal length looks super short, which is something I've always wanted. I guess I have short arms or a short torso or something.

Yup. I have short arms and short legs. We spent a lot of time on these figures.
