Pretty dry winter here so far, so decided to go up in elevation. About 8K' and zero snow on the ground.

30x18 gearing is pretty decent for climbing, thinking about switching to 32x20 as that seems to be what most of the Bikepack racing crowd is running. Hoping to build a Paul WORD boost hub into a new hoop this winter and commit fully to the SS world on this bike.

I've heard single speeders say that given equal gear ratios (those two are 0.0666 or 0.025 different depending how you calculate), the chain uses less energy traveling around larger cogs/chainrings than smaller ones. Doesn't have to bend as much or something. But keep your old ones: everyone will change back again if some pro goes back to small cogs/chainwheels and claims a 0.06666 weight advantage :flipoff2:

Is that back open again? There was a fire up there last year, right?
The fire last year was a bit south. Bobcat burnt back in 2020. The City of Fort Collins built the top loop after the fire. Pretty cool but a bit technical and gets the vertical and mileage up there! Pretty fun ride but it beats the hell out of you.

there is enough snow at the higher elevations to limit riding in south lake. we were up at High Meadow the other day sinking to our knees wishing we brought the snow shoes. Cold Creek is snowed out. i'm going to ride Mule Deer and Tahoe Mt tomorrow because they are lower elevation and more exposed. even road riding is limited, i had lots of huge patches up to Luther Pass and on Old Pony Express. i'm sure Ebbetts, Monitor, Blue Lakes, etc. are snowed out. We need snow...!!!
