Thanks Dood! It was good to see you. The :princess: and I need to get out to some events soon! We miss the club community!

Getting close to being settled and wrapping up the build!

I finished the workbench yesterday and then picked up an old industrial drafting chair and card catalog (originally from Guilford county courthouse). The chair will get redone (paint, etc) but it works fine as is. The card catalog will serve for bolt/screw/nut hardware and smalls storage.

Also got the compressor running and hose reel, filter and lines done.

Also pulled out my list of to-dos for the 40 that I mad before moving it into storage. Hopefully my next post (after the fourth) will be the restart/continuation of an old build thread.

Few pics.

I have been following this thread from the start from afar, but felt that I shouldn't barge in on a local club forum... But now I can't help myself.
Awesome build and I am taking notes for my own future shop.
Unsolicited input: I have a 2 whiteboards on my garage walls that have proven invaluable for punch lists and drawing out problems.

YES! I love whiteboards and have one in my kitchen. Why didn't I think to put one in the garage?!

I keep running punch lists (on paper) on all builds. It ends up being pages by the end of a large build. Anything that pops into my head as I am working goes on the list. No idea where I'd put a white board :hmm:

I'll pipe in with a cost saver ... had a classroom years ago I wanted white boards in. One 4' x 8' piece of shower board along with a tube of liquid nails and BAM. Total cost was about $15. Okay, but in a nice new garage i would likely use anchors over liquid nails. :)

I wish I was a disciplined as you. My problem is I have about 17 notebooks roaming around and I never seem to be able to keep a consistent thread in any of them. each one has a different piece of a build or an idea in it and I randomly find them as I periodically go through a notebook that turns up.
The white board allows me to focus at the task at hand. I have also taken pictures of the whiteboard, like when I rewired the speedo and gauges, so I have a permanent record of the wiring configuration and colors to reference later.

I got accustomed to the running list when I was a new construction superintendent building large housing developments. I would have 5-40 houses in the pipeline at any one time. It was the only way I was able to keep up with hot button items all at a glance that I could carry. I also used a micro tape recorder often and listened to it while driving. Tried the mini digital recorders in the shop, too hard to keep clean and or mis place.

What's shower board?

A Masonite- like panel board with a white acrylic face.

Fyi... They now make white board adhesive. Literally peel and stick to your wall like self- adhesive wall paper.

I've got a sheet of that in my garage. Just need to find a better spot where I can get to it to use it.

They even make dry erase duct tape now.

40 is finally out of storage! Time to get working on it...dang there is a lot to do!

Also spread 20 tons of stone over the rear section of driveway. Looks much cleaner and no longer beat down by all the large truck traffic.

Picked up a couple more metal cabinets off craigslist - time to start filling them up!

Another idea for whiteboard, specially with white walls; any extra panes of glass secured to the wall become an instant whiteboard. That was part of the design of our new office.

Looking for advice on mounting height for wall cabinets.

What's the consensus for the height of the bottom of the cabinet from the top if the top of the workbench?
