What about the grading does not conform to code?

Part of it is silly, but part makes sense in a sense...dirt needs to be no closer than 6" from the bottom run of vinyl siding. There are a couple spots where the dirt is more like 3" so this needs to be fixed.

The other part is that there should be (starting from the foundation) 6" of slope at 10'. I have some work to do here as I don't have 10' to the fence...this will require me to create a swell to divert water to away from he building.

It sucks b/c it's more hard labor work for me, but it will honestly help ensure the buidling stays dry. Unfortunately as lliving here for a while and watching the water run-off, I know it's fine as is...

Got the air line 'outlets' installed last night...very clean looking!

The power company indicated (yesterday) they would be here "first thing" today to trench and finish...however it's after 10am and they are no-shows so far :bang:.

My burnish pads showed up yesterday so I'll likely get the floor coated this evening...pics once it's done. Then I can start moving s*** in!

Wahoo!! Floor is done and once I get my dirt work done, I'm gonna be moving stuff in!!

I started working on the floor last night. I laid down 3 coats of Legacy Industries HD40 Stainguard, waiting about an hour b/w coats. Once dry, (first thing this morning) I spent ~3 hours wrangling a highspeed floor buffer burnishing the stainguard into the floors (damn thing owned me at first, but I got the hang of it). 2 hours with a gloss pad and 1 hour with a high gloss pad. I'm sure my core is going to be sore tomorrow morning!

I'm super pleased with how it turned out! It's very glossy and seems to have significantly improved the surface durability (i.e. doesn't scratch or mark). The other slick part is this is not a sealer, but is absorbed by the concrete and binds with the lime creating an even denser surface. No VOCs either, so no lingering fumes like an acrylic sealer.

Floor prep was super easy, just scrub with a Simple Green solution, mop off dirt, rinse and let dry!

Didn't change the color of the concrete (which I liked) but burnishing left a real nice smooth glossy finish. Total cost was ~400 bucs which included the stainguard, applicato pads, cheap garden sprayer, 10 burnish pads (only used 2) and 4 hour floor buffer rental.

Looks amazing. The power company went on strike right after I set the meter base. Three weeks later I got power once the strike was resolved.

IH8DIRT!!!

I literally moved dirt by hand tools and wheel barrow half day Friday, all day yesterday and all day today...freaking spent man! I think that I've now moved all the dirt that was excavated for the slab, plus some...Hopefully it's good enough to pass inspection tomorrow!

Since I was moving dirt for the past three days, nothing got moved into the garage yet...maybe during the evenings this week. Lift gets installed a week from tomorrow.

Initial dirt pile I created with a Toro Dingo:

Your post is giving me flashbacks. I borrowed a dump truck and skid steer and took several dozen loads out to a friend who needed clean fill. I rolled the bob cat onto it's side after lifting the bucked while on soft soil. 8275 on the FJ40 pulled it right back up onto it's wheels. LOL

Just as I was at the point where you were, my neighbor Dave showed up with a Kubota setup with a landscape rake and saved the day.

Scared the s*** out of me. Just a few years ago I was driving a Kubota and one of the tires fell into a hole and I almost rolled it over. That was far, far scarier. Kinda hard to get hurt in a Bobcat....

Compressor is confirmed for delivery tomorrow!!

Purchased a pair of the large HD Husky shelving units last night, along with a hand truck to start getting moved in. Since the lift should be installed next Tuesday...the 40 can be moved in soon after.

Maybe I can keep the momentum and get teh 40 finished as quick as the garage - HA!

I need to pick up a few sticks of 2"x2"x.120 square tube and some 1.5"x1.5"x3/16 angle...what's the best source in the Durham area? I've been to Shep's (sp?) place before but somewhere closer would be great.

Any recommendations?

The only place I've used is Peak Steel down in Apex. Not close, but the people are nice and the orders are always correct when I pick them up.

Quincy QT54 compressor was delivered today. I had to lay it down in the back of my Duramax pickup to get it back to the garage. Was only laying down for 15 minutes or so but leaked a couple ounces of oil.
How long should I wait before startup? Also, I'll most definitely be sure to check the oil level too!

I'd wait maybe an hour or two (in this heat), but I'd make sure to replace the oil that leaked out.

Very cool, congrats! Agree with Johnny, maybe pull the output tube and cycle it a couple times by hand to make sure no oil got above the piston.

Am I the only one that thought of The Tardis when seeing these pics?

Very nice build! Inspirational. I've been sharing with my wife in hopes of someday building something similar. Love this thread!

Looks good. Enough room there to service the belt?
