For the record, really not impressed that for the money you spent, that you had to get this all done yourself (even if in a way it benefited you for future trips)...pretty lame of them all :meh:

Nice Destin...cool to read that you can get out and about again...looking forward to more pics of your travels

hehe yeah, i hear ya, but at least i can do it all my self now.
Half of my irritation is not knowing how to do something and then it going wrong and not being able to fix it. s*** drives me nuts, i hate having to depend on a third party too, now i can do it myself :D

Seriously though, thanks everyone for your help, learn more here everyday :D

Where are you headed to first?! We need trail/adventure pics! Nice job figuring it all out Destin!

Cheers, Carlos

prolly doing some camping around hood or on the beach on the oregon coast :D

Dropped the tank off to be flushed today, ( there was some paint overspray so i wanted to make sure it was completely clean before reinstalling )
So i hook that all up later today and get all the loose bits sorted :)

This engine was refreshed, right? Don't forget to properly break it in.

Awesome.

x2 on break in. Also make sure you (they) got the dissy seated and you have good oil pressure! (pretty obvious but thought I better mention!)

I like to heat cycle new motors. Run em up to operating temp varrying engine loads. Then let it cool off completely...repeat a few times.

oil pressure is about 40 at a cold start, btu warmed up around 24, when yea rev the oil pressure rises :)

hooked the gas can up and started it today and it was sputtering at first, but that might have just been air in the lines.. Fuel tank should be ready by tomorrow and I will hook it up and let ya know how it runs under load...

i think the mechanic hooked my headlights to the wiring harness wrong, as when i turn the headlights on ( they work ) the turn signals do not blink.., but they turns signals blink fine with no headlights on,,,
misplaced wires maybe?

notices a small drip ( only when running ) between the timing cover bottom and the oil pan.
Tightend the timing cover bottom bolts( they were not all that tight ), see if it goes away, does not do it sitting, did not look like it was coolant from the plugs.

post mroe tomorrow when i get the tank hooked up, work out the air in the fuel lines from that, and we will see where we are at :D

ok have it running well

but I think that oil leak may be a problem.
Checked the oil before i picked it up from the engine rebuilders, when they fixed the freeze plug, and it was full. But, now it is on the bottom of the range of low.

The oil is leaking from inbetween the bottom of the timing cover and the front of the oil pan.
The FSM says a leak about there and excessive oil consumption could be a blocked oil passaage by the timing gears in the block.
No way that small drip lost that much oil.

Are you supposed to ccheck the oil when it is hot right?

You think just tuning it at my shop mostly at idle could have hosed the motor based on the low oil was?

I will have to call the engine rebuilders tomorrow and find out what kind of oil it takes for break in and explain the problem and drive it over ( after installing the new tank )

This is getting ridiculous guys :(

Destin - Check the earths that effect the lights and blinkers. Don't want to be alarmest but this can turn into a nightmare quickly. Check the simple stuff first and then check it again.

All looking good - you are just down to the teething problems.

Cheers Dobster

check oil after its been sitting. If you check it right after shutting it down it will read low.
sucks its leaking...Id let the shop deal with that.

Best is to check the oil level when the car is sitting over night.
All the oil could return to the oil pan, so you messure the correct oil level !!
Too much oil in the pan is bad too. Level should be between the two lines ( L..... H ) on the oil dipstick.
Cheers
Peter

Destin have you got the 64 FSM? I have a 62 FSM and I would guess the wiring diagrams should be able the same if not the about the same. The 62 had the dual front turn signals and smaller rear tail lights but those shouldn't affect the wiring diagrams. Not if they used the same color codes on the wires I'm not sure of.

Tail light side note: Wes had the smaller lights on his '64...his was manufactured end of '63. My '64 is actually a little older than Wes's, so I went with the smaller 25 lights on mine as well

those cork side cover gaskets are a pita. I used a touch of sealant on both sides and don't overtighten the screws as it will crush the cork. make sure the surfaces are super clean before hand.
