I installed JC Whitney delay wipers years ago on my '78 FJ40, and one issue with timer-based systems that control the motor independently is that they don't always self-park as they should, between delay wipes. This is just a design consideration if you want to roll your own. I had to cut a wire or two to install this system, which powers and operates the wipers independently from the Toyota wiring. Some may not like this approach.

If you can intercept the shipping just have it sent to me so I can get the harness made and tested.

I just sent him an email to try and redirect shipping. Thanks

I'm not following this?
If you look at my album I posted, I converted my motor to be able to use the stock intermittent switch and relay, using an Aussie RHD 40 motor as a guide. The motor is originally grounded, so you have to add a wire internally and jump the original ground on the housing to the high speed wire from the switch.

Remember Mark, mine's a '77.......

I've been looking at the wiring diagram for my 76 FJ and it shows the switch controls the ground side of the circuit, so using the delay box and a Coolerman sub harness sounds like the way to fly.
Does and know if that vintage delay box is a mechanical or electronic style unit. Just wandering ???

The timer units I ordered from MCM electronics came in. They are kits that you build (solder all the components onto the circuit board). Look well made. Took me about 15 minutes to assemble one. My plan is to just use a toggle switch on a plate I will mount under the dash and just wire the relay that is on this unit parallel with the low speed wire from the dash switch. The relay closing should be the same thing as me pulling and pushing in the dash switch is my thoughts.

Hey Pete,
How much is that thing? I carry the 4 pin latching connector that thing requires. I could make a sub harness that would be almost plug and play using that...

This is too cool. Mine just arrived. Mark, I'm in for a harness.

Has anyone else seen this part as factory equipment?

There was another set up in addition to the mechanical points type that I have on my 84. It was from 81 and was an add on unit with a dial that turned it on and off as well as controlled the speed. It is better than the electo-mechanical type like my 84. I can not find the mechanical type on any parts lists- not the 4 position wiper switch..

Pete
Can you show some photos of how it's installed on the car?

I have a 4 position switch so I was thinking of wiring the delay timer to come on with the 2nd position and somehow locking out the switch on the dial.

Pete

Coolerman I'll take a harness. I'll take a fog harness too while you're at it.

Thx,
Mike

In my case it was just tacked on under the dash next to the a/c controls. Nothin special.

If I ever get around to reinstalling it I'll mount it in the dash next to the wiper switch.

Pete

Mine should be heading your way mark
