Is it just the switch needed to make it work? I would guess there is something else needed. @peteinjp showed a mechanical timing device that I ass-u-me just interrupted the signal to the motor. Would that be the "relay"

I've got coolerman working on a concept I have to use my steering wheel horn buttons to cycle the wipers when needed and install a separate horn button in the dash. Already had a factory hole there that was covered by one of those vintage inclinometer doo-dads. Just waiting for wiring instructions from Mark. I rarely need a horn but need a wipe almost daily.

I'll post as soon as mine gets delivered. I was hoping it was the switch and relay, but unsure now.

I was trying to find a plug and play solution. You could always wire a timer circuit that fires a relay and then wire that in. I guess you still need a four position switch, then use your timer circuit/relay setup and wire that in to the same wires for the low speed. I would think parallel with the low speed. The 555 timer IC is good for simple timer circuits. I guess turning on the switch to intermittent would start the 555 clocking, then it would fire the relay and continue cycling until it lost power (you turn off the switch).

.....As far as I can tell, for my 1977 FJ40 the wiper switch part number is 8465060050.
For a 1984 FJ40 the wiper switch part number is 8465227010. I ordered this one in hopes it is intermittent.

When you view the two different parts, 8465060050 states it is a wiper switch. But part 8465227010 states it is switch and relay.
I am hoping I just ordered a intermittent switch (8465227010), but won't know for sure until it arrives. But I guess even if not it is a spare.....

I see nothing to suggest that either of these part numbers represents a dash-mounted switch for INTERMITTENT wipers..(as found on some late-model 40-series) and they both look like "switch only" to me.

Yeah. I just can't seem to find the part number for the intermittent flavor switch. I ordered a couple of the timer modules from MCM electronics (I want intermittent on my 1973 Bronco as well). Will see if I can wire up something using that delay timer. I guess I have a spare switch coming for my wipers :).

this is a pic from cruiserparts showing the delay relay - it is obviously a mechanical delay setup. You would need a 4 position switch - off-delay-slow-fast
delay wiper.webp

Pete in japan would be able to enlighten us. He has the stock setup on his BJ46 as I linked above. He was last on line this morning at 5:41am mountain time. @peteinjp

I see now the two parts I was using, the later part just has a different plug setup I think. So the switch I ordered is for 77 - 84 FJ40, but not intermittent style. I am thinking now I should cancel my order if I can.

Can you call them and discuss?

My question, not that anybody cares.... , can I get the switch and relay for a 24V BJ42??

Worked out good. That online parts order website is actually run by my local dealer. I called them and they said I could cancel no problem. But also, they can't just look up the part number for the intermittent wiper switch. But if I had a VIN number of say a 1984 FJ40, they could use that to find a part.

So anyone out there have a 1984 with intermittent wipers that would share their VIN so we could get the Toyota part number for the switch?
Thanks.

I have one of those cool intermittent relays (Thanks Orange45) and all you would need is a single on-off switch to trigger it on, 1 4 position female connector I sell to plug into it, a splice into the existing low speed wiper wiring, and a connection to ground to use it.

This is true old school Toyota tech! It uses a DC motor with a gear drive train to drive a cam that simply opens and closes a set of contacts every three seconds. Connect one side of the contacts to the low speed wiper motor lead, connect the other side of the contact to ground, provide +12V to the motor through a on-off switch and you will have a three second intermittent wiper delay as long as the on-off switch is on. When you turn it off, the wipers will park as they always do as long as you park circuit works.

The cheapest way to do this is to buy one of the many wiper delay black boxes available on E-Bay and wire it in. This option gives you control from 2 seconds to 20 seconds by twisting a knob. Just remember that Toyota switches GROUND to activate the wiper!

I tried earlier to discuss with my local dealer about the part number. The guy tells me that they cannot look up a part, but if I have a VIN number of any given year, he can then look up parts for that vehicle. So, if we had a VIN of say a 1984 FJ40 that has intermittent wipers, my dealer can look up the part for that vehicle. Weird how they do it.

Yeah. I just can't seem to find the part number for the intermittent flavor switch. ...

You must have missed it but I posted the part number for the "genuine dash-mounted 40-series wiper switch with intermittent setting" earlier in the thread:

The part number for the genuine 40-series dash-mounted switch is 84652-60330.......

This is what made me think it is the intermittent flavor....

Search Parts like 8465227010

I don't know why they say "and relay" in their description. That part number is for the switch alone. (But if it was indeed "with relay" I agree that this would imply that it has an intermittent function because it is the intermittent function that requires the relay.)

Well, as far as I know, you use the same switch (84652-60330) and simply choose the 24V relay (85940-36021) instead of the 12V version (85940-36010).

I knew you wouldn't let me down Tom! A gentle ambiguous question was all it took

I figured the switch was the same. And I hoped the relay was marketed in a 24V build somewhere.

Thank you.

What about the wiring? wouldn't the 4 position switch have more leads?

I would prefer a stock option but I am aware that I can make my own system quite easily.
