Every Good Boy Does Fine! Nathan started playing saxophone this year. He likes for me to sit with him as he practices. Initially I was helping him with notes and rhythms but he has quickly improved beyond my capability to assist much anymore. It's funny that the kids today are still starting out playing the same old crappy songs we played in the early 80's. A flood of memories from my middle and high school band days wash over my brain every time I hear Nathan practicing a new song. Cool stuff.
I also remember the chalk holders for music class. In the early years, when we were learning our letters and again when we learned cursive, the teachers would put chalk in positions 1, 3 and 5, making three lines to show us on the chalk board the proper way to write upper and lower case letters. Another memory is being tasked with dusting the erasers every month or so. There was a telephone pole in the school yard that was solid white from the ground up to about four feet.
