Nice fiber glass work. Not for tree rubbing I guess? Are you building this rig for yourself or to sell?

I'll just plate the 3b in chrome and I guess it'll be safe :flipoff2: and add some massive spring hangers...
Yeah, might as well make it useful for plowing snow.

100% for me, so barring some financial apocalypse I'll be keeping it till they make it too expensive to insure. Which might be in 5 years at the present rate.

I'm sick of selling cruisers. I've had two I really loved and sold them because of the taxman, I'm not super fond of my 61 but unless something lhd comes along I'd just as soon keep it too.

As for tree rubbing, they're about 1/4" thick. Considerably stronger than the tin around them, which isn't much good for tree rubbing either on a 40, but wheeling and breaking s*** isn't my thing anyway. :meh:

I have a set of them on my truck... they hold up really well... and on the plus side if you do rub them on a tree to the point you break them they're pretty easy to fix... grind it out, fill it up with resin and mat and grind it smooth :D

It all depends on the resin. I've laminated fiberglass using epoxy resin... it can be nearly unbreakable and can be folded inside out. Most automotive/boat resins aren't that flexible. Layup and resin can make it much stronger that tin.

Yeah, my reasoning is just that they look half decent, and cost about $200 in materials to build, vs what, $800 for aqualu?

Old mootard has a set too. Still look ok, tho I notice he still hasn't sold it, maybe just letting it rust for 8 years wasn't the best way to triple your money on a cruiser?

I have some Kevlar cloth so I could have made them bullet proof  but that s*** is a nightmare to work with if you ever need to repair.

ya I saw it was listed at a "cost". wonder how long it'll take to sucker someone in on that one

Yeah, 20k + was a bit much. Good truck mechanically, (or at least it was... ) but it's firmly in the "little bit pregnant"category now, in that the tub still looks ok, but that baby is comin' out . There's no difference between the truck that looks ok, and needs a tub and the truck that is power ****ed an needs a tub. :meh:

As for the green thing, I've done some messing around with it. Got the front clip together, it's roughly aligned, but I'm not too stressed about it. First time I drive over a rough road it'll all move anyways.

Complete with Graham's 70 turn signals ( which firmly puts a bullseye on his for a tree branch now that I have these installed...

And Mr Vern's hand painted emblem ...

I should be doing brake stuff first, but ****it, the deck is more fun, and I'm on vacation...

Nice update! I was wondering where this was at....

Ha, yeah it's marching along. I figger this is my last run of time off where swmbo will leave me alone about house projects so I can work on the truck. So I'm gonna see if I can make a dent.
Aside from the cosmetics, that I absolutely hate wasting time on...it should be down to the short and curlies by the time I go back to work.
Provided I can stay away from the witch piss...

That stuff is unforgiving. Yesterday was not kind to me.

I might just toss my crusty windshield frame on it just to get it done. Next winter will be some fine tunings.

That's enough looking at the pretty light for today...I figger if I decide to go with something else one day, I'll have the makings for a good little trailer.

Pretty much 64" square...

Some cheapo ebay turn signals I picked up last year. Actually don't seem bad.

Think they were about 40 bucks for the pair. :meh:

I'll figger out something for front mounts tomorrow. I'll need to have the ol' 2am bedroom ceiling autocad design session tonight...or failing that, at least look at it with a fresher brain in the morning.

Was going to drop by today, you there in the morning? If you have my cell number ping me,
I’ll come over.

Seats look good in a 40... not so much in a 60. I was happy to see them go.

Yeah they're comfy. Swmbo approves.

Made sure she can reach the pedals so she'll actually drive it once in a while...
I think the heat circuit will be on the "next year" list.

It was supposed to be a yardwork and bonfire day but now I'm just hiding in the shop from falling trees. :bang:

Bright side, with all the doors open, I won't have to sweep in here.

I changed the back corners a bit. I like this better, I'm sorta copying the steel trays that "tiger trays" make. Other side will have to be different so I can squeeze the fuel filler in there, but I ran out of material.

I might do the fold down sides in aluminum. Just to avoid the paint bs.

I hate painting.

The old front mounts I cut off the 70 frame worked out pretty well for the forward mounts from deck to the frame.

They look like something toyota might've put there, which considering the likelihood of an inspection notice one day, isn't a bad thing. I have another set of body mount brackets, think I'll throw them on right at the back. Should be good enough.

Nice flat deck start. I like the round stock. What are you going to deck it with?

Nice flat deck start. I like the round stock. What are you going to deck it with?
thanks it's getting there... I've been meaning to send you a pm about that winch...keep forgetting.

For decking, probably just some fir I have lying around for now.
I was actually thinking about using that grey composite decking the various box stores sell.

I'll have to have a better look at the stuff next time I'm in hd, I don't really know if it's any good I just like the idea of not having to finish or anything.

On the other hand with wood I don't have to feel bad about screwing down cleats once in a while because it's cheap to replace.

Spent most of yesterday on one of my least favorite things, and probably the most over rated thing on a truck. ****ing shocks :bang:

Gonna pick up some brake parts today. Dodgy backyard test burn approacheth...:hillbilly:

That composite wood is VERY slippery. Make sure you ratchet down every load. Fir is good for 15. Maybe 20 if you dump some used oil on it. The winch is yours if you want it?

Torched yellow cedar is more my style.

It moved....

But first I had to deal with some of this bull****. Had to make shock towers due to a lack of real estate on the port side.

Then a ****ton of brake lines...and various other hoses and fluids to get it to run.

In retrospect, I wish I'd not followed the stock route, going up like that it makes it so you can't just do a quick gravity bleed to the front brakes. I guess running them to the starboard side is a remnant of the RHD origins...

How well does it stop with 4 of those you ask? Put it this way, I misplaced the return spring for the brake pedal. The weight of the pedal functions as a parking brake....

Face smashing stopping power is what the Crustaceous one would call it.🤟

Time for several beer then a shop clean up.

My cruiser lean has materialized on the front this time. I took the extra leaf out of both of the old EMU rears that are up front, guess I'm adding it back in...

Occurred to me....that's the first time I've driven a 40 series since...either Moutard or when Dano let me drive his 42 for a little bit on a new years day run. ( back when this was a club)

Don't remember which was more recent, but either way 5+ years, probably closer to 8

I fixed the lean the other day. Initially swapped the fronts side to side, and it helped a bit, but didn't cure it, so I added the extra leaf back in. We'll see what happens when I had 300 lbs of winch and bumper to that. Yay.

Pic almost makes it look like it has a windshield.

"What did you do today dear?"

"The usual. Made a truck weigh more."

Might be awkward towing with the receiver pointed up, :moon: but I figger it'll be handy for dropping in a vice or my bender so I'm not always on the edge of flipping over my bench. Should end up flush with the decking.

Goal is to make it useful. The Red Green thing, "if she can't find you handsome..."

****ed around for half a day with the fuel fill. Always a bitch with flat decks, getting it high enough that it'll fill, but not interfere with the deck. I initially had a 40 series fuel door tacked in at the back corner, but decided against it.

I think this'll work, it's as high as it can go. I don't really like it, so if I find it's a pain, I'll put a filler in the side of the cab up high and run a long tube, then erase all this.

I welded in a couple tabs for tie downs. Way overkill for just attached to a deck, but the thicker steel will be less sharp, and hopefully hurt slightly less when it bashes into hip bones...because it is PERFECT hip bone height. As I've already discovered.

Big holes so a proper rope can be put through without the dreaded braided rope foreskin peel back...

I poked around with a receiver, then decided ****it. I don't see myself towing anything with this anytime soon. That can go in the next year pile.

I clamped the bumperettes on there thinking they'd look silly, but I actually don't mind them. Once it's all hosed down with black and there's a deck on there, and tail lights, it'll be less busy looking.

They're a little tweaked but nothing a bfh and vise can't fix. :hillbilly:

I just need to find the proper measurement for distance between the holes on a single bumperette for straightening them.

Also tacked in some plates for mounting the lights, made of the finest decommissioned bedpan washer stainless steel....

I just need to ad some tabbing to support the ends of the deck planking, then I can take this thing off and weld underneath it, and hose it down with some black stuff.

And just because I think it's kinda cool...I found something in the bushes a while ago, gave it a douche of red and zapped out some numbers for a street sign.

It's so freaking heavy I swear it's pushing down against the sky. My wee little tractor can barely lift it off the ground, never mind plow with it.

Seeing as everyone drives 2km's past our place (google is wrong) this should be a bit harder to miss. :grinpimp:
