Oh and he isn't cutting up a perfectly good 80. The reason for paint is because the PS fender doesn't match. But even if he was, I still think it is cool. Much better idea in my opinion than going with a really huge body lift and suspension lift or limiting the lift with bump stops.

I was more making fun of myself, who DID cut up a perfectly good 80. I know Mark, and I was making him out to be almost as nutty as me. He is, but thats another story.

I sold my old one to lagwagon a year ago or so. I don't know if he still has it or not.

I have a bead on a 92 housing, I cant think of the difference other than the ABS routing mounts. Anything I am missing?

Oh I would NEVER chop up a cruiser…. Hmmm ok maybe I have done a few. You are nutty, but you fall more into nutty with massive attention to detail! Me well just nutty.

Oh so easy to fill in the blanks :princess:

Oh BTW Mark, you don't have a '97 FZJ80. You have a '97 LX450 pansy :flipoff2:

Its the gimp!

Better than that BBQ burning junk you drag around!

Ok folks hijack my own thread. LT recently converted his truck to propane. A few weeks ago he had the hood up trying to set the carb in front of the shop. Well I could not resist and why he was by the steering wheel I lit up a blast of starting fluid across his bow from the engine bay. Needless to say ol' LT came hopping around the drivers door darn quick! As an added bonus my bay door security cam caught it so you can see a screen shot! It took me a good 20 min to stop laughing.

End hijack.

Not good! Ok looking for a non locked front axel housing right now. Anyone have one? (not under their truck!)

Mark,

We can swap your's for the one under my wife's '97:D :D :D

Mark,

The 92 housing should work. Knuckles out are the difference.

And ABS wire routing brackets.

Just as I thought. I will probably go with the wrecking yard 92 housing then. (Going to try one more source first) Dan I tried running the locked carrier housing alone with my local dealership, they say none in the US, but they have non locked drop out is good.

Going with a bare housing will let me cut and turn the knuckles to compensate for the caster anyway. More fun. Too bad I don’t have the time right now to just redo the whole front suspension…. Na better not try right now, that’s for when I get back. (Just itching to put the coilovers on!)

Quit posting and get back to work....

These fallen trees are HUGE!!!!!!

John,

So you hacked up the 79 huh

Tap....tap tap....

Just for ATS4x4:flipoff2:

It’s 2 AM just finished finally getting some orange on this thing. Still just the door jams but the PPG paint is laying up nice and the equipment is all working dead on. Big thanks to fellow Cascade Cruiser Travis Winkler (also an 80 owner) for coming down to the shop to help paint tonight. Travis has more experience shooting automotive paint so always good to have a second set of eyes. He mixed and I shot.

A few photos:

First off the “booth” plastic hung to control dust. Not in the photo are the two 20”x20” box fans drawing air out of the shop. I put a matching size house hold air filter on each fan and they worked outstanding. Opposite side of the door I ran a 175,000 BTU forced air propane contractor heater. This worked real well keeping the air warm, moving and removing paint in the air.

I am painting the whole front clip off the truck since I cut the fenders and replacing the hood.

No doubt about it, its orange!

That’s all for tonight, time to head home for sleep. I will be back in tomorrow to pull tape, sand the tape lines and prep the main panels for paint. By the end of the day the whole truck should be done with paint. Whooo hoo!

Then comes the axels…. Fun fun.

Yup, the 80 has moved to the front of my little cruiser pack for the primary wheeler. No worries I still plan to take on the same trails! Every time I take the 80 out its always a blast. Plus now with the THREE boys the extra room for them and there gear is a plus. (ok have not taken the 10 mth old out just yet) I will post up a RIP thread for the 79 on Pirate.

If you got overspray all the way out of your shop and on my 60, maybe Ryan or Owen ought to help you squirt that 80...............

Or are they painting it.....

Na my tow rig was in the way! The goofy house hold filters worked, they are both dead after just the jams but they worked. For $0.99 each I can spring for two new ones for tomorrow!

Now Ryan did ask if he could help paint the cruiser.... so the first 3 vertical feet of your truck might be a different color by the time you get back. Probably a rainbow. (oh wait that would be for Mace’s truck)

Mark

i have one i would love to trade for a locked housing

housing for housing?

if your selling your locked housing, can i get first dibs? :D

PM me

Boston,

That would be funny if Mark ended up with that housing. He sold me that parts rig. I sold you the housing. If it went back to Mark it would have done a lot of traveling without the other parts to make it go down the road.

Yup!! Cruiserparts sure do a lot of traveling! :D

A couple of other differences with the 92 axle.

I think the rotors are smaller and the birfs are shorter which means the spline length on the flange is shorter/weaker.

I was talking with Dan and the longer splines came in at some point in 94
