Seven days from now (Saturday 1:00 AM PST) this truck has to be chained down on the trailer. The tow rig will be packed with all the necessary camping gear, spare parts, tools, welder and of course plenty of Oregon beer to share in camp. (Stop by for one!)

T minus Seven Days:

The trucks exterior is almost completed for prep to shoot the sealer and then the color. All of the flare holes have been welded and blended into the panels.

The welded and blended areas get a light skim of filler and are sanded flush with a wet sand finish.

All the mask lines from painting the jams have to be removed and blended into the panels. Travis Winkler came over and helped even though his Moab project has a list still as well.

Still I need to do a wet sand on the roof and the right side. I neglected to bag the whole truck when I shot the jams so any exposed area received considerable over spray. Fortunately it comes off with a wet sand and the window use steel wool with light lacquer thinner. Check out this window! (Ok yes gratuitous MT plug)

The shop is an absolute mess right now with all this grinding and sanding going on. Tomorrow morning all the body gear gets put aside and out comes the wrenches. Two maybe three club members are coming over to help jump pulling the front axel housing and building the new 94’ none locked housing with all the goodies. (Cro-mo inners and outers, ARB, 5.29 gears, fresh seals, etc.) Thanks to Boston Mangler for trading me the empty non locked for my empty locked housing. I looked over the locked, its do able to modify the housing for the non locked drop out, but this will be cleaner. The rear also gets the 3rd swapped out. The new 5.29 gear set for the rear is not setting up. We stopped at .180” of shims for the pinion, and it still did not set! Something is wrong with the new set of gears, I don’t think the 97’ LX drop out is off. Fortunately I have a set of 3rds both set up with ARB’s and 5.29’s I ran in my FJ40 that is no more. I will use the RD03 front set up and just swap the pinion flange over for the 80. This will work fine for now, then once I get the issue figured out on the other set up I will switch them over.

Time to head home for sleep and back down here early to meet the crew to kick the axels. Tempting to just sleep in the office tonight, would not be the first time.

More photos tomorrow.

Mark
It seems the links to all the pictures have been lost. Does anyone have any old pics of the rad orange rig?

I have some random pics of it, unless you are looking for some specifics.
