I am glad you are okay, that really does suck to have a total loss. I am curious what insurance offered for total? Are they being difficult? One of the things I have often wondered about was insurance payouts on these with the big price tags most are bringing.

As someone who totaled a 99 with lockers and lots of aftermarket goodies in January, they will never pay what it takes to replace what you lost.

Great community spirit here. I'm a bit to far away... But, I would check that the frame rail is not bent before proceeding. It's not that hard to do some cross measurements around the affected area. It would be a shame to fix everything only to discover that it's twisted or not driving straight.

Like this one - 2-dimensional measurements from the center line. As long as you establish a center line as a reference, you can measure to any point which has a symmetrical equal on the other side.

Edit: Or even just a D to d measurement could uncover a problem, since that would be the overloaded point, most likely.

Or a 3-dimensional check like this:

Is this happening across the board? Anyone else with the unfortunate experience?

thats just insurances. any aftermarket is not covered. only stock components.
i had a built ford lightning with custom sb and sc, and the insurance only wanted to pay the stock price....thats why i am not overbuilding my 100. never gonna lose $ like that again

just put new tires on a rig years ago when the wife smacked a deer doing 60mph.
wouldn't give us anything on the new rubber, I had a friend who set me up with 4 bald tires and swapped them out.

I guess what I meant to ask is, are insurance companies paying out fair values based on current pricing?

This is, I would say, the norm. Ex: I was lucky in that a corporate vehicle hit my freshly build '00 LC last Summer (dump truck). I had literally just installed the springs the night before, and had about $20k in receipts from parts and labor in the previous 2-3 weeks. I fought them for weeks to get a check that was enough to replace "MY" truck. That's the thing... I was in a fortunate position but even still, they just wanted to replace with another $8k LC. No, no, no. "MY" truck had $20K worth of investment in it, and nothing they were going to point to as comps would have. Eventually I got to the point of calling an attorney and only then did the higher-ups step in and cut me a check that started with a '2'.

Tires won't make any difference at all unless they're specifically an upgrade from stock or stock-equivalent. Same with brakes, fluid changes, or any maintenance item. Replace an exhaust manifold? Kick rocks. Install new SS DT headers? There ya go.

Your trick is what most people do. These totalled vehicles go to auction and get purchased by rebuilders or scrap yards. Strip the good stuff and replace it with whatever fits in the spot.

SWIM (someone who isn't me) had a totalled LC100 with a lot of money in new parts on it. That same person now owns a 2005 LX with a very similar mod list to the aforementioned LC. The LC, as I'm told, went to the scrap yard with blown speakers put back in, Tundra steelies and bald tires, blown OEM suspension, etc. If only those SS DT headers weren't such a bitch to R+R...

I cannot believe the steering arm sheared off the bolts. Now I want to see what the rack mounts look like.

For some reason, those pictures seem to be making my allergies act up!
😢

I'm thinking there is a lot more damage than seeing the first pics in the other thread.
control arm mounts?
A pillar?
core support?
air box?

I'd have the frame checked before proceeding

yes the air box tube snapped before the box, frame has very little bandage and can be fixed.

If you do not have frame damage, I may have all the suspension parts that you need to at least get it rolling again.

Update on the wrecked cruiser:

several generous men have sent me parts to get her up and rolling again. I have put on a CV axle, and a upper control arm so far. I just got a wheel so I will be getting that put on as soon as I get a new steering knuckle because mine is all bent up. Thanks again to everyone helping me out on this!! I will have the cruiser done as soon as I find the parts needed. The parts left to be found are:

Airbox,

lower control arm,

steering knuckle,

passenger door shell,

passenger side mirror,

and passenger fender.

I am planning to find an after market front bumper instead or replacing the factory one that is damaged.
