Mark's Offroad (@65swb45) is in Burbank. I'll bet a nickel he has several Fed spec manifolds available to purchase along with the right EGR pipe.

That is not a "typical" 2F manifold. But a Cali spec manifold.

It's not that plentiful compared to other 2F manifolds.
Exactly--definitely part of the problem in finding one.

I think it was said above but you don't need to use that exact manifold anymore. The Fed spec 2F manifold has been SMOG approved as a replacement since the CA spec manifolds are as rare as hen's teeth. If I recall they were only on the 76/77 Cali spec 40s.

I must have missed that. Perfect then. Does the year matter? I believe I have a 75' intake/exhaust manifold from another 2F that I had been toying with rebuilding.

The Thermal Reactor manifold was also on 1978 CA trucks.

Iptman - how did you learn the Fed spec 2F manifold is smog legal? I am getting different responses on that and was hoping to verify it was Smog legal before moving forward with the fed spec manifold. Man, that would be a lot easier!!

When I was researching replacing my cracked Thermal Reactor manifold with a Fed spec unit I found several posts here on Mud that talked about it. Certainly not definitive so maybe someone from CA can comment on this.

We have spoken.

I'll have to defer that to the collective for confirmation but I think any 2F manifold will mount up.

Patrick, as i explained to Nado on the phone, the orientation of the collector on the Cali-spec manifold is unique and will require mods to adapt any other manifold.

True and I think we mentioned that to him earlier in this tread. When I (@OTRAMM did the work) swapped my TR I bought a 2F flange from @hairy_apple and had the full exhaust redone at the same time. I'm sure any competent exhaust shop could take the flange and mate up a small section of pipe to the remaining exhaust piping if he doesn't want to replace the whole thing.

In fact I saw recently that SOR now offers that flange.

Yup, $60 last I saw. It's such a weird shape and bolt pattern @hairy_apple and I went back and forth 3 times before we got it right. I was close to just shipping him the center section of the manifold before we got it right.

Thank you Patrick and Mark for the help. This is my first FJ40 and my mechanical experience is intermediate at best. I bought her about 10 months ago and am slowly trying to figure out what's missing and incorrect (there appears to be a bunch of things).

I took a few more pictures of what things look like now around the manifold (my carb is presently off and working on the rebuild of that). From the looks of things, it appears I have no EGR equipment. I am not sure how necessary it is to have it?

A few months after I bought my FJ40, another local guy was giving away a 2F from an early 76' FJ40, so I have the exhaust manifold from that (see pics). I am hoping to utilize that if possible. I certainly appreciate all the help and input!
