The OEM engine and transmission were sold and the FJ was prepared to receive a 350. This was the extent of the project, she is moving to the East Coast and can't take the FJ with... here is were I came in place...

I would have been curious of the production date. Few things were different with the 78. Windshield washer on the top of the windshield which this one has. Different rear mirror and the seat belt/brake warning light on the dash rather on a bracket below. Not sure if makes any difference 77 or 78 model with emission in CA. Would also make a difference it if had Federal or CA emission originally. Also looks like it was more then prepared for a V8. The front V8 motor mounts look like they have wear marks rubber donuts were running. Which all bring into question the original miles on the speedometer. Pre 81 they rolled over at 100K. While it may be priced high for CA if the current owner would to take it back east it probably worth twice that in parts. Even more with a clear title sold where no emissions are required. I would be tempted myself if I was younger and didn't had too many projects. Probably very few things that this is missing I don't already have.

Now, for the price... $3,000

What do you guys think?
Carlos

There are countless threads on here of guys dealing with major rust issues and panel replacements: Quarter panels, rocker panels, floor panels, sills, etc, not to mention frame rust issues You have the opportunity to purchase a vehicle without any major rust and with all the body panels present including side doors rear door and a complete top. (If I read your posts properly). Just look at the classifieds section to see what those panels sell for.

And it has the desirable features of newer side doors, rear ambulance doors, rear vent windows, front disc brakes and the low mounted windshield wipers.

My opinion is $3K is a bargain.

Effectively not anymore. The Thermal Reactor (TR) is no longer required in CA. I have found recently the fed carb is too rich to pass CA smog.

Gentlemen,

The deal might turn even sweeter and double the excitement...

There's a 1972 that just came into the shop and they want $5k for both

The 72 is complete but has rust issues... will see it in the morning and post pictures and the outcome...
Wish me twice the luck please! ;)

Oh yeah, the wife's GOTTA be thrilled with this turn. Well, I wish you luck anyway!

it the barn doors were factory the body would have the corners rescessed so the doors would fit flush.yours looks like stock late model corners where the doors go im with the 78 crowd on this one

Sept 77 or later? 1978 model year began in Sept 77.

Here it is... the other cruiser (72) was a no show... and based on the description of it by the shop owner "is a rust bucket"
The 77 is still missing a bunch of parts and the pink slip...

So... no 40 for me... at least for now...

Yep, looks like Nov 77, making it a '78 model year. Bummer about that pink slip.

Based on the serial no., it's about 3000 trucks after the Oct. 77 truck that I bought in Dec. 77.

What does 'no pink slip' mean?

getting a title (pink slip) isn't that hard most of the time. that 78 looks fairly rust free and with all the parts I don't think 2-3k is too far off. though you can use the no title to bargain a little more off the price
