Cowl part# help please, for the passenger foot well leak

I need to pull my cowl off and try to understand why this is happening. Third windshield (at least) and original cowl cover, with no leaks so far..

The cover seems affordable and effective for keeping water out but to me restricting airflow that much can’t be the best solution.

I wonder whether a U-profile of say 1/2” wide and tall attached to the edge, window side, would do the trick of directing rain water side ways.

I'm getting a new OEM windshield this week and insurance is also springing for a new cowl....... I'm going to consider removing my homemade deflector. The challenge is I won't know until it rains again which most likely won't be for at least 6 months.
I was sort of hoping they would have only approved the windshield since I've solved the leak myself with the original cowl.

I was thinking the same thing. Do you really need to fully cover the opening, or just create a secondary drain channel for any water dripping off the windshield and past the seal?

I would suggest that you leave the secondary cover in place even after they install a new cowl. There is a design flaw some were with in a simple design and I would rather not go back in and fix it again. I found my my cabin filter wet once. Made a cover with the materials I had and will not remove it. It works.
Thank you all for posting your quick fixes. Keep it simple with good info, and pictures.

Any noticeable AC issues with the cover/deflector?

None at all that myself or my dogs have noticed.

Normal A/C mode sets the sys to "recirculate".
So a clean high flow cabin air filter is more important if using A/C.

Restricting air flow is not the answer even though some claim it "works" great.
The foam insulation is a temp fix.

Buy the replacement and be done, it is a MUCH tighter fit and you can put the issue to bed.

Until after my 3rd windshield. I’ve only had them fail after windshield replacements.
What is up with the 200 and rocks? I am needing a 2nd windshield replaced in a year. When I got my first replacement I had a star chip and another small chip within a month. I only drive this thing less than 5k miles a year.

Stop tailgating!

Seriously I’ve had falling stones pelt my windshield in CO during a heavy rain, but every time I’ve taken a rock to the windshield from a vehicle in front of me it’s because that vehicle kicked it up. If I’d been further back it likely wouldn’t have hit the windshield.

Most of the time (actually I think every time) for me it has been from a vehicle going the opposite direction as me. 2 of them were from my yearly trip up the Dalton.

I went through 5 windshields in 9 years when I had my g500

I get em from 18-wheelers, either several car lengths in front of me or coming the opposite direction. It’s so frustrating. I live in Tennessee, and we have extremely wet winters. The rain freezes and blasts chunks of the road out, creating big potholes. Traffic pulverizes it into smaller pieces. Then all the big trucks drive over it and kick it up into the air. It’s super bad here.

Yeah I used to get them routinely when I lived in Virginia, especially with all the dump trucks. Illinois roads are terrible but most of my driving is lower speeds at least. The last couple star chips I picked up were out west on summer vacations, ironically… one of which I watched come up from the truck in front and nail me.

Genuine Toyota or aftermarket?

I need to start tailgating really close so the rocks hit the grille instead of the windshield.
