Ever try the electronic wounded rabbit call? Buddy uses one and it really brings them in.

I have a friend that brings out his calls and thermals on occasion.

For the most part I don't shoot predators when I'm deer hunting because I'm deer hunting. Also my sister loves to chase fox, bobcat and coyotes with her foxhounds.

This one was so big and I'm sick of deer. 2 more days of quicky hunts after work and its OVER.

I figured if you shot a bobcat with a .35 whelan, there would a puff of fur, some pink mist, and that would be about it.

Shot it in chest and it came out in the belly. My beaver trapper was very pleased with the lack of damage. He left with a smile.

From my trapper

"Was fine I've sewed 7&8" holes up th big deal on a cat is th belly. U did urself a service a big male is over 20lbs a big fem ovr 17 that was a 21 lb fem fat as butter guaranteed to raise a batch of fawn eating kittens this year"

He sent me a skinned picture of the carnage but I won't post. Huge damage

Is he going to make you a bobcat hat?

He might. Guys name is Scott Wells. He's an American bad ass. Trapper. Killer.

He's a local guy right? I think I've heard of him.

My oldest just turned 13 and has some birthday money burning a hole in his pocket. He wants a used deer rifle or a shotgun (20 ga. pump) under $300. Anyone have anything fitting the bill?

The best sub $300 rifle you are going to find is a Handi Rifle. It's an awesome platform, whether you go with the H&R, CVA or spend a little more for a T/C.

You shouldn't have much of a problem finding a used 870 in that price range, if a single shot isn't cool enough for him.

well based on good advice....357 sig is out...40 or most likely 45 is in. (talking about pistols).. got to narrow down the choices and see how much $$ we can flush. Liking the 1911 style 45's. Sig tactical ops 45 looks good. I appreciate the recommendations....in previous posts...there are more than one good mfg and model out there and in a number of price ranges.

I might be a bit of a purist, but I won't buy a "1911" with an external extractor because it isn't a 1911.
