Much of this could be due my physical build (5'10", 160lbs).
- The headrest sits too far back from the rest of the seat. Where the 80, 100 and 200 series headrest perfectly supports my head while cruising, this does not. I have added a 2" thick headrest cushion to compensate, but that still doesn't completely do the trick because the fill is too soft. A more solid cushion would probably help.
- The top portion of the seat back, the vinyl section about the cloth, seems to sit about 1/2" further back than the cloth portion (similar to above with the headrest). So, when sitting naturally in the seat, my lower back up to my shoulder blades makes good contact with the seat and is supported, but the top section of my back is not.
- The potential fix with this, is to angle the seat further up, but I have found that because it's a manual seat, one notch creates too much of a right angle, while the other feels like I'm leaned back too far. Almost feels like it needs another notch in between the two positions I most commonly use.
- If I replace the seats in any 80 series again, I'm determined to get something with an integrated armrest. To me, a big center console will not fix this unless a separate armrest comes off of it and nearly makes contact with the driver seat. I loved this about the 100 series, tundras and sequoia, something not seen in other toyota SUV's
Again, these are likely some thing others with a different physical build may disagree on, but I've had these for a few years now and this is my personal assessment. I think they're bad seats, and for the price they get the job done. Think of it like OME Vs. SLINKY suspensions.
Maybe one day I'll be ballsy enough to get some scheelmann seats but have a hard time coughing up $3-4k on seats, for a truck worth 10k, even though I'm confident they're worth it.
