Do the seat back mechanisms last on Corbeau’s? The floor sample I saw was broken (sit in it and you imediately lean back).

Has anyone seen this long term reliability issue?

I have a Corbeau Baja XRS for the drivers and Corbeau sport seat for the passenger.
Only problem I had was I had to slot the rear bolt holes on both the brackets for my 97. I love the seats.

Here some pics of how modified the plastic heater cover. You really only need like 1/2” to clear it. Also I had hell getting the seat bracket to line up on the seat. The first mount it was to tight and the seat would not move back and fourth. Ended up having to drill some bigger holes on the mount. Now mounting in the truck was the same issue you have to drill\slot the mount to get it to line up correctly.

Still waiting on my drivers bracket for some reason it did not come with all seats and passenger bracket. Hoping this one will go better.

Should have took one from final install but I basically put a rubber gasket on top made some cuts on edges and pushed the top plastic edge under the metal case to get the clearance.

Thanks for the pix MickeyB - sounds like it's doable with a little head scratching, a few step #6's, and some caveman mechanics - I'm good at that :D

I just pulled 13 hours in the drivers seat over a 30 hour period, with 8 hours of skiing in there - my back and arse are not happy! Gonna swap the OEM seats out! I'm torn between the Corbeau Sport recliner, and the Baja RS, but I'm thinking the suspension seat is going to be more comfy, and what DavidinAZ says above about the bracket height on the Sport might be a deal breaker.

It's not a daily driver, but I drive it for days on end...

Intreasing as I thought they used the same bracket for all the seats, but maybe not. Suspension seat sounds pretty sweet to. Trying to make mine a daily driver so I need something well rounded.

I have not moved on this yet but am leaning toward the suspension seats. I'd love to sit in them first but that's TBD.

@plutonius did you end up getting the suspension seats? Or the Sports?

I have the sports in leather and have 60K in the cockpit and they are the shiite killer for sleeping in too, Im 5'11" 245 lbs

Just wanted to bump this to see if there’s anybody else out there with long-term experience? Are they holding up? Did they break in and soften?
I ran a set of leather sports for almost 2 years, they are sweet. I replaced them with custom made seats but all I have for wear is a slight scuff from entering and exiting truck 70000miles of seat time total. Im selling them but dont want to ship.

I'm still running them in my truck. For the money, I'm happy and they've held up well. There are little things I dislike about the seats and I still prefer a rebuilt factory leather seat, but they are a good solution.

Like what?
Much of this could be due my physical build (5'10", 160lbs).

  1. The headrest sits too far back from the rest of the seat. Where the 80, 100 and 200 series headrest perfectly supports my head while cruising, this does not. I have added a 2" thick headrest cushion to compensate, but that still doesn't completely do the trick because the fill is too soft. A more solid cushion would probably help.
  2. The top portion of the seat back, the vinyl section about the cloth, seems to sit about 1/2" further back than the cloth portion (similar to above with the headrest). So, when sitting naturally in the seat, my lower back up to my shoulder blades makes good contact with the seat and is supported, but the top section of my back is not.
  3. The potential fix with this, is to angle the seat further up, but I have found that because it's a manual seat, one notch creates too much of a right angle, while the other feels like I'm leaned back too far. Almost feels like it needs another notch in between the two positions I most commonly use.
  4. If I replace the seats in any 80 series again, I'm determined to get something with an integrated armrest. To me, a big center console will not fix this unless a separate armrest comes off of it and nearly makes contact with the driver seat. I loved this about the 100 series, tundras and sequoia, something not seen in other toyota SUV's

Again, these are likely some thing others with a different physical build may disagree on, but I've had these for a few years now and this is my personal assessment. I think they're bad seats, and for the price they get the job done. Think of it like OME Vs. SLINKY suspensions.

Maybe one day I'll be ballsy enough to get some scheelmann seats but have a hard time coughing up $3-4k on seats, for a truck worth 10k, even though I'm confident they're worth it.

Thanks for the detailed response. We are of similar stature, me a little taller, so those quirks may annoy me also.

Thanks for the info about the seats, that's super helpful as it's impossible to sample seats where I live.

A lot of what you mention are complaints I have about the stock seats and wish to remedy with new seats. I'm just 5'9" and for the headrest to be of any use at all it's gotta be all the way extended. I also never feel like I'm sitting "in" the stock seats, but sitting "on" them.
