@Cruiserhead05 How are the seats holding up?

I have a set of factory manual brackets. would it be pretty easy to adapt to the factory brackets?

@bulhas What brackets did you use?

I was figuring on spending that just to have mine reupholstered with new leather. Got me thinking now....
Its a tad over a grand if you want them in leather, Im waiting on fed ex to stop holding mine hostage and deliver

I'm quite happy and they are holding up well. Initial impression was that they were too stiff, however that has translated into being very supportive. My 7+ hour trip to GSMTR this year was actually quite comfortable.

Speaking of Corbeaus, anybody have the Moabs? I put black neoprene covers on the front and back seats awhile back and like them, but still hate the stock seats and see that Corbeau makes black neoprene Moabs. Hoping to free up some legroom for the passengers as well as have higher back seats, as the stock seats are just awkwardly designed.

I have a Corbeau Moab for my driver seat. I was looking into getting my stock seats re-upholstered. Apparently the OEM fabric from the FJ80s is difficult to find, plus I was unhappy with the leg room, so I decided to go after market. I started with a set of Corbeau Baja RS seats ($598/pr) that I installed last January (also ordered the corbeau seat bases and a double lock slide for the driver seat). I started daily driving my 80 about a month later, and I started to not like those high side bolsters. For reference, I have an OME 2.5" lift with metric 33" tires, so not the truck isn't that high, but I thought it was a pain in the ass (literally... actually).

I did like the price of the Corbeaus and the increased leg room. So, I decided to order a Moab ($270) for the driver seat, my co-pilot doesn't mind her Baja RS, so I kept that seat in the passenger spot. The moab's flatter seat is much nicer to me for a daily driver. Also, I am 6'3", and the higher chair back seems a little safer for whiplash protection (my head was not supported by the Baja RS). The angle of the seat does feel a bit too much reclined in the most up right setting to me though, but that could just be subjective.

If money were no object, I would install a set of Scheel-mann seats. Even if I could afford a set, spending that much on seats for a 26 year old vehicle I bought for $5k seems crazy to me though. I would rather spend somewhere in the $300 dollar per seat range, and call it good. It is worth it for the increased leg room if you are tall. The corbeau seats don't feel like OEM quality though. It is a trade off I guess.

Baja RS and Moab side by side:

@Zdeech , was there any clearance issue with the rear heater? Can you take a pic under the passenger seat?

@MoGas, thanks for mentioning that, I forgot about the rear seat heater clearance issue under the passenger seat. Yes, there was a clearance issue. Before ordering the seats and brackets, I did read in another thread that someone else encountered this and they just reversed the seat bracket slider so it was oriented under the rear of the seat. I tried reversing the single slider under the passenger seat, but for me, that still did not provide quite enough clearance for the seat bracket.

I don't use the rear seat heater, so I decided to do some surgery on the plastic ducting. I scrolled back on my phone pic gallery and found a couple pics. So, the ducting is now open under the passenger seat (hey wait a minute, I could tell my wife that I installed a seat heater for her in the passenger seat;)). Now that I am looking at this again, I think I could go back and patch that removed ducting hole with some aluminum tape.

I removed the screw (missing) and took a peak in there, and noticed the metal pipe (coolant, I imagine. - second pic) and took note of that when cutting the plastic ducting out with a dremel:

Piece of plastic ducting removed, after this piece was removed, the corbeau seat bracket fit (and the rear seat heater was compromised):

@MoGas , I can take another pic or two tomorrow showing the seat bracket installed if you are interested.

Thanks for the feedback. My issue with the stock seats is the back angle and how short they are, they're always awkward and I have no desire to re-upholster them. I'd like to get some Recaros, but I'm with you on the $$, given what these trucks are worth. That said, it's been my DD for years, so might be worthwhile.

Has anyone bought the grey seats yet? Wondering how the shade of the material looks compared to the back seats

No problem. Despite what I said about cost, Recaros would be really sweet, and higher quality than corbeaus for sure. :hmm: Seat upgrades are pretty amazing, it is obviously a mod / upgrade that you certainly notice.

<...goes to craigslist to search for recaros....>

These Corbeaus seats are very comfortable AFTER they are broken in! I had them in my Heep (before I came down with “Land Cruiser” sickness!) and I drove that pretty much non-stop from S. Carolina to Moab without a problem. My current ride still has the stockers, I’m in process now of choosing replacement seats. Them Recaros are Sweet seats..... I just need to rob a bank to afford them!

Hey kids, of the three Corbeau seats in this - Sport, Baja RS, and Moab - what's everyone's pick if you were going to drive and explore your rig across the country? I've never liked the stock seats and it occurred to me that maybe it's finally time to swap them out, but I'm not paying $$$$ for Recaros etc. I'm leaning toward the Baja RS. Vinyl or cloth?

Just ordered a set of the Corbeau sport seats. Total with brackets was around $800.00 and that was from 4wheelparts. They take about month to get after ordering. So keep that mind if your in a rush. Anyway really excited to get these bad boys as I just did a new radio and pioneer speaker upgrade.

Cool. No rush, it's just on my mind. Another question to anyone with manual aftermarket seats - do you miss the adjustability of the power seats ie tilt, angle, height etc?

I have extended seat track brackets in mine now, ride with the seat as far back as it will go, as low as it goes but with a slight angle, as the extension brackets raise the front end of the seat an inch or so. But once set, that's it. The only time the position changes is if someone leggy gets in the seat behind me - rare - and I need to scoot forward an inch or two.

Hello,

Just got my seats, and started to mount and ran into the issue with the passenger bracket hitting the rear heater. I am wanting to keep the rear heater so any ideas on how others worked around this.

^^^following. Can you post up a pic of the bracket interference?

I had the Baja xrs seats for a couple years then swapped them out for sport seats. Sport seats are far more comfortable in my opinion, but with the corbeau brackets you’ll sit up pretty high.
