So then a pointy tip isn't really necessary? I would imagine that even a flattened tip would work, so long as the vibes get to do their thing. I like it. Of course, it would mean buying an impact hammer tool...
 
Thanks everyone. I got them out. I let them soak overnight with a liberal dose of liquid wrench and then this morning I got a little more aggressive with a hammer and a block of oak but, driving a very small flat screwdriver into the cone slot is what got them to pop loose.
 
Here's a pic of the ones I mentioned. When the tips get dull or broken I hit them with the grinder.

I use an air hammer with the blunt adaptor, works great.
