Land Cruiser World Traveller to Present at CMCC2010

New York - April 12, 2010 - Al Podell, co-author of "Who Needs a Road:
The Story of the Longest and Last Motor Journey Around the World" will
deliver a presentation and slide show at the 2010 Coal Mine Cruiser
Classic detailing his 42,500-mile motor trip around the world.

In 1965-6, Podell, along with Harold Stephens, set the world's record
for the longest non-repetitive miles motor trip around the globe.
Primarily in a brand new, stock Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-40, these two
intrepid travelers drove through 37 countries, a feat that would
likely be impossible today. Imagine circumnavigating the world
overland, driving through places like North Africa, Iraq, Afghanistan
and Iran. Not only was Podell's trip the longest, but it was also the
last motor expedition around the world!

Check the Gotham City Land Cruisers website for scheduling info and
for information on signing up for the Coal Mine Cruiser Classic 2010.

Thats awsome. I have been reading that in the "library' for the last few months and its a awsome book

Al Podell presented at the very first CMCC back in 2000 and I met him a few times for dinner in the city. He's a bit eccentric, but a real genuine guy and very approachable. You folks will love his presentations. He's more than happy to sign copies of "Who Needs a Road", so if you have one, make sure to bring it.

Oh, and Chris, you really need to read more before you post.

"he is a bit eccentric..."
aren't we all? <otherwise we all would be driving Chevys>

Alrighty... Its been a few years since I have been to CMCC (its a lil tough when your 1,100 miles away). Last time I was there it was at Paragon. I have not yet been to Rausch Creek or Echo campground for that matter. Is there camping at both? Which is more remote? I prefer to camp in a more primative camp spot, I always feel a little weird when the camping spots are jammed up right next to each other like a parking lot.

Any advice on where to camp would be cool...

Thanks,
-Al

hold on..........I will get you a link

some will stay at Rausch for free but most will stay at the camp ground.......be right back

Don't camp at Rausch Creek because it's just a giant dust bowl. Very little shade. Echo is better. More people to hang with and fix your rig when broken.

Lowtide,

You can camp at RC, but it won't be comfortable. EV is our HQ for the event, just like Red Ridge was the HQ when we were at Paragon. The facilities are OK and the campsites can get crowded, but it is pretty much the only game in town for us. FWIW, the owners have been making improvements every year to accomodate larger crowds. It has gotten better over the years.

See you there.
