Ah yes, tank wrestling. It can be rough project as I recall. The good news is sounds like you are close to the finish line. I dont recall seeing or replacing any rubber pads when I did mine.... might have missed the boat on that

Tank in, one hole for tank to mount to frame didn’t line up, I suspect previous build or little tweaking during adventures caused misalignment.
This may explain why I couldn’t get bolt back in as it was previously forced to some degree while at an angle. Tapped 3 of 4 holes and took dremel to fuel tank mounting hole and tank now in place.
All hoses back on except for fuel return hose that somehow where up being too short to connect. I suspect previously it was stretched to fit, you can see where clamp was at the very end.
Off to town to get some real gas and hopefully new fuel return hose. Looks like 0.5” ID, hope o reillys has something I’m ready to fire Bonnie back up.

Got some 0.5 ID fuel hose but despite my best efforts cannot get it attached to the filler neck. Gonna keep trying but think thinner walled hose that’s more distensible may be needed.
Of course the last thing I needed is where progress stops.
Called O’ Reilly and they don’t have any other type of hose. Anyone have have recommendations on the best hose to use here?

Have you tried heating it up with a blow dryer then putting light oil on the tank opening? I had similar issues with the other vent hoses and this solved my problem.

I’ll give it a try. Wife won’t miss the blow drier at all!!
I did use little silicone spray but no bueno.
Can also soak the end in hot water…good luck

Half way there, filler neck attached. Tank side not so much.
Not giving up though, may try little medical trick for few hours gonna try and dilate the end, just need another mm to get it on. Before that more heat coming!

Heat, lubricant and little dilation using some long needle noses worked like a charm.
Put end of hose over end of the long needle noses while heating it. Opened the pliers over and over again then it went right on.
Now if I can only find the plug for tank itself, I put it somewhere safe, really safe apparently.

I’d say successful day. Put 5 gallons in it and drain plug with new copper washer leaked like crazy. Swapped plugs with different washer after brief gas shower and all is good.
Pushed Bonnie out of the shop, cranked a few times and started right up.
Tomorrow finish it up with spare tire bracket and throw some more fuel in it.

I think I just sourced some bulk hose at the local NAPA, or maybe at the Parker Store when I was trying to find fill hose...
From here, you might be able to see a part number. I think I got the overflow hose at the Parker Store:

Just wait until she sees her blow dryer out in the shop!
That is what I did for the main filler hose - snug fit!
I was afraid you were going to break out a speculum you keep for garage use!

Speculums have limited use. Good for getting things out of a hole and I could see using to hold fishes mouth open to get a lure that’s been swallowed.
Either way the similarities are ironic!!

For the record, I do not nor do I ever have plans to get a speculum for the shop.
Sometimes it is good to get these things on record!!!
Again, I think it best if I back away vs engage the topic of "off-label" usage any further.
