Keith: Are you going to include an internal sump? Hope so.
Donno...Ill be building a sump into it, but itll hang off the bottom of the tank. Would that be an EXTERNAL???
What are you talking about? With pics please!
Keith,
If you are going to build an "external" sump like in the link, I would build it so that will hold fuel around the pickup on inclines, etc. So essentially you would be building a slight "internal" sump as well. Make sense?
Jack

Sort of, but Not really....
My plan was to get a chunk of square tube .120 wall 6x6, or 5x5 or...what ever I think will work, ABOUT the length of the tank front to back. Cut it at an angle so it slopes , in this case toward the rear.Essentially a triangle that will be the sump where Ill weld in the pick up at the end. set it on the tank and mark where I want it to go on the tank. Within those marks, I would cut a few one in. holes through the bottom of the tank toward the front or the rear to allow for fuel to get IN, but it would NOT be so easy for it to get OUT. Once that is done, Id then weld the sump, triangle thing to the bottom of the tank.
Is that what youre talking about?
The guy in the rockgods thread just cut the bottom of the tank to make a sump...I dont think its a BAD idea, but I think the way Im planning might be a bit better at holding the fuel where I need it on extreme angles.
BTW...I stopped in at the place called parker hydraulic today....
They make brake lines FOR YOU. All you have to do is get the dimensions and fitting sizes. The line is teflon inner core, then braided steel and then a clear plastic coating over that. Rated to like 3K lbs and is apparently pretty cheap to do. That would knock about a WEEK of time off this project, cuz there is no bending and flaring of tube. Im going to investigate that a bit more. Seems like a pretty nice set up.
They also do fuel lines as well with the same stuff.
I love going into places like that...like a kid in a candy store.
Also...my tank was NOT finished, so...****!![]()

Yep, your way should work as well. That is the one thing I didn't like about the other guy's sump, no way to keep fuel around the pickup. You want to make it so the fuel has an easy way in, but is very hard to get out. That way the pickup stays submerged regardless of how the vehicle is pitched (excluding a rollover, but then you will have other problems). Fuel pumps don't last long without fuel plus the engine don't like it either.
That is awesome on the lines. You are talking about the one across from Baldini's on Rock? I have been going there for years to get all kinds of air supply stuff. I plan on giving them a visit on some other stuff soon.
Good guys that have always been very helpful.
Jack
Keith...HH&F is a great shop. Their lines are also DOT compliant...not all fabbers are. Ask for Jake (Jacob) at the counter. Good guy and generally knows his way around...and will go the extra mile for you.
my old man works for Parker and they make those at his plant. pretty sweet stuff. even sweeter being able to get all sorts of Teflon tubing including steel braided tube. stuff is nearly indestructible and much better than a crappy rubber insert with braid over.
I believe he is referring to the same place you are.Where is this place at???

I love that joint, also a great place to get PS lines made, they hooked my up with one for a Chevy truck when the dealer ship wanted a week to get one.
I also got the fittings and stuff for my FJ40 PS, they are reusable* and you can cut them to length yourself.
*repairable
I was hoping you would go with blue and black, maybe some wood grain accents someplace.Btw... Thinking about a charcoal grey for the color of the rig. Think it would look awesome with black accent cage, frame, bezel etc. Talked to the boss about it and she didnt care. Got the idea from that 40 onthe cover of TT. Loved the look of that thing. Also, I could use the appliance black on all the trim pieces.
The place my old man works at is here and Texas and they deal with wholesale only. But what they have available up there by you could have been made right here in fort worth. Hell could even have my grubby prints on it. Lol.
Gonna murder (well sorta) it all out eh? Could look pretty cool, I didn't see this tt so I don't know what that one looked like.

In either case...its gonna be a "10ft paint job". That is pretty much all I care about with it as its gonna get scratched and dented anyway.
