38's are the max I'd go.
I'm leaning towards 37's though down the road.
The BFG mts that are on there are still basically new, so new tires are a ways away. Can't justify new tires yet!!

Still gotta mount the wiper fluid can, secure the intake tube and loom some wire... Just easier not having to fight the hood. Theres no trans tunnel in yet either!

If I were to guess, I'd say yes to the thicker material. Either the weld will fail, or the base will bend. For these, I used 3/16 plate. Well see how it does.
I did have to cut an angle in the square tube for it to hit the u bolt plate flat, so that will be additional stress on the base plate. Fortunately, i have the skills to make new ones if needed!!
