Driveing to the trail wheeling and drivin the same rig home and the to work... Is scary... I had forgotten how scary till I drove Pickle to our customer run Labor day... Makes me miss my trailer:lol:

Yeah... Death valley is about 6-8 hrs away from me too. It was fine. I actually liked the taco for that type of trip, but... The DD thing was always in the back of my head.
I was really impressed w/ what that lil rig could do stock. The gearing from the factory is surprisingly low!!

Now all it needs is some desert pin striping ... Congrats.

Yes!!!
Everyone around me was running rubicon, fordice, deer valley etc and I was just at home working, and the timeline kept getting pushed further and further out. That was probably the worst. When I figure I'd be at least testing things out... I was still faaaaaar away for various issues.
I'm just stoked for next season to get back on the rocks again. Feels like I've been paralyzed and now I suddenly can walk again!! :)
Hey! We sacrificed too!

I put on an extra five pounds of beer weight drinking for you when you couldn't go. :flipoff2:

It will be good to have you back around the campfire doing your own drinking.

Sniff... Sniff....
Thanks man!!! :)
My copilot jack Daniels!!

Yeup...
Had to put our gunner dog down. :(
We got him as a pup... Just ripped our hearts out!
My wife looked at me and said.."now what do we do?" he was mommas boy. She spent almost all day everyday w/ him at her side.
Devastating for us both. A very sad time at the Hansen house. He was a GREAT dog.

My heart goes out to both of you. That is a rough thing to have to do. I've been there.

What kind of dog? The pic in your avatar looks a bit like Boxer, but not quite. Mastif?

Don

Sorry to hear brother ... He's running in clouds with no pain, looking down on y'all with a happy tail

Thanks don!
He was a bullmastiff.
I knew it would be a tough thing to go through. I had always empathized with others who had gone through this and dreaded the day it would come for us... Funny thing is... The reality of this is far worse than I had ever imagined it. I had no clue.

Thats tough, I feel your pain.
We had a great Pyrenees that died while we where on the boat, had a dead struggle for 2 hours and there was nothing we could do. It breaks your hart, she finaly put her head down at our feet and went peacefully. I actualy get tears in my eyes typing this down.
It's like you lose your child, it's been over 10 years and I still feel the pain.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

Sorry to hear that Chi. Been there a couple times myself. At least he's not in anymore pain.

Funny now that I think about it my lab's collar and leash are still hanging on the wall in the garage. been there since she passed almost 8 years ago.

I've lost so many dogs and I remember every single loss.

Sorry to hear it.

He was MY FIRST DOG. I mean, the first dog that was MY dog. I grew up w/ dogs...
Were looking into breeders NOW that are within driving distances (days travel).
Gunner did NOT like to travel in vehicles for very long, so unfortunately, he really NEVER had gone wheeling with us. He would have had a panic attack I think.
When we get a new pup, Ill be takin him with us everywhere from the get go. That is one thing that I regret that we just never got gunner used to riding with us.
I have a thread in the chit chat section too on how people wheel with large breed dogs. Seems that there should be some safety issues to consider. Im thinking that when the wifes not with me, I can pull the front seat and bolt a box with a harness for him in place of the seat.
This has been an exceptionally HARD TIME going through this. We both loved that dog more than anything...
thanks for all the thoughts and words....:crybaby::cheers:

Back to TECH!
I did split the t cases from the trans and got THAT leak squared away. I had not put ANY sort of gasket or gasket maker in there at all.
I had to chop the back of the tub trans hole to move the cases back, but it was actually a LOT easier than I expected after I did that.
There was a small coolant leak...all that needed was a good tightening. The steering box...well...well see. Its leaking from the cap.

When a pup is real young is the time to get them used to traveling. Our first Boxer went everywhere with us. She loved to go in the car. The second Boxer came along and he loved to go in the car. The third Boxer came to stay and she loves to ride, but with three big dogs that just doesn't happen very much any more.

What breed of dog are you looking for? Another Mastiff? Or?

We'll have another litter of Boxer pups sometime in early Feb and they will be ready to go to new homes early to mid April.

Whatever your choice in the search for a new family member, I wish you the best.

Don

Don,
It'll be another bullmastiff.
That is the ideal breed for us and our lifestyle. Prior to getting gunner years ago, we researched for a solid year through all the breeds that we liked and considered getting. The bullmastiff and great dane were the two best options.
My wife loves boxers, but we decided they were too high energy for us to own one.
Like you said though, our new pup will be with us all the time so he does get used to travel. I really have regretted that we never got gunner used to travel as a pup. He just would get so anxious and forget a rough road.

its best to start them in the car / truck while they are young.... be prepared for motion sickness. Sometimes as the dog matures they just never get over their issues with traveling. I've had dogs that we "adopted"...there were 4-5 years old and they simple jumped in and never looked back, I've had others that you had to drag into the vehicle (like to see the DVM) and no matter what they were not liking it.

From my experience (our dogs who were mainly outside types).....generally like riding as long as they could get fresh air and were able to stick their head out and survey the area...they liked riding in the back of a pickup truck. Other dogs seem adjust just fine and will even sit in the seat and be well behaved (I was never able to get ours to do that...but did not spend a great deal of effort as this was long before I got into 4wd). The less stressful the einvironment is the better....the dogs pickup on the owners mood..etc.

Sorry to hear about your loss....I'm a big dog fan too and they become part of your family and its tough to deal with their passing and health issues.

Took the rig out again after fixing the t case leak. Found that the front DS was hitting the trans pan a bit... BFH therapy worked that out.
Flexed her out on that same rock as earlier...
Found that I really need to extend the bump stops in front.
The shock was maze out going UP, and the springs were slightly neg. Arched.
Also, came home and hooked the obd scanner up to see whT the temps are... The VDO gauge says it about 160, but the scanner reads 195 and holds steady there at idle. Donno the why it's reading off, but. Rpm on the gauge reads about 600 the scanner is 700.

Looking good ... Bigger bump stops will make the springs happier
