Rectangle is preferred. Actually, now that you say that @Onur had a picture of several styles... Will see if I can find that.

my preference is 87901-60011 as i have had that mirror on all 40 variant vehicles. I do recommend gluing the rubber edge to the mirror head.

update: installed heater and radiator hoses. did not install heater as erik still wants under the dash to install done light and some additional interirior light.
once we fill with water, it should be ready to fire up.
still need brake lines and fuel lines but we can test fire off a gas can like good hillbillies.

In the 20 or so years I’ve owned this truck, this is the first time it’s ever run.

It had been stripped and sandblasted and left outside for years. No motor, trans, seats...basically a frame and some rusty sheet metal.

The only unexpected thing that happened was: the oil pressure guage shows crazy high pressure. Not pegged, but close. This was not the case when it ran last in my FJ40, which it did reliably for years. So we thing maybe bad sender, or mis-match b/t the sender and the guage. So we're going to get a mechanical oil pressure guage and see what it's really doing and go from there.

Well. Some pics from the fire up and get to temp stage. Oil pressure stabilized. Rpms stabilized. Alternator, temp stabilized. We were frustrated for a bit but a new oem fuel pump solved that problem. Best 2 bolt solution all weekend. Now we can start plumbing the tank, instal and bleed the power steering and some other bits and pieces. Congrats @Chef

Little while since we have updated this.. Last weekend was pretty busy.. I do get to say "I told ya so" on the interior.. I wanted to do this months ago and it finally happened.
Specter Coral covers and new foam. Small spacers were made for under the passenger seat to clear the AN fuel tank fittings for the future EFI conversion. It is plumbed but not hooked up yet.

Next order of business was having Steve assemble a power steering pump that was not leaking. Needed a pump on and bled prior to start up.

Lots of small things still needed. A quick toe adjustment, robbed @Chef 's garage for a new in the box shipped in 1999 8274-50 winch for the front. Pulled the steel cable off so we could lift the darn thing. Since we have a 4plus front bumper and the park lamps in the bib, i installed a front license plate mount that covers the fairlead. Keeps it a little cleaner up front. Also since the tires are back on for a bit, decided to mount the hubcaps.. New tires are coming shortly, these are circa 1998 ish.. old 33x9.5 bfg at's from back in the day.. Rock hard but good enough for what we need right now.

We still hadn't gotten around to installing the Drivers side bugcatcher. The passenger side was installed using the Furman weatherstripping. Works ok.. But we were using Kurt's repro for the drivers side. Slight differences.. but it is installed.. Next.. Sent Steve to get some gas.. 1st fill in the tank..

Now was the time we have all been waiting for.. the first time this thing has moved under it's own power since @Chef has owned it.. I imagine approx 30 years? I was given the honors of pulling it out of the garage and around the block for the first time.. Couple trips around the block, some air in the old tires and we had it pretty much sorted.. Not 55mph sorted but neighborhood speeds sorted.. Alan's sister even stopped by after her drive up from Santa Fe NM to get a quick ride.

Now those that are following along and wondering.. Where the heck is Alan? well.. Long story I'm not going to go into the details but he had NO idea all this was happening.. BUT we had a goal. And that goal was to meet him at the discharge door of the hospital when he was released..
Steve and I patiently waiting in the parking garage and the first time @Chef has ever seen his FJ-45 run / move / drive since he has owned it.. Congrats Alan on a really cool truck.. We still have some small things to do but 98% there.. I am blessed to have been a part of this project and it was a team effort.. This story is not over but it just passed a big hurdle.
