What's the on road handling like Junior? Interested in slinky springs, but not if it handles like a boat

so far so good. if you know the comenarra parkway at all, it will cruise through there nice and quick if you pick the right lines. But, i was stretching it's legs yesterday and while it didn't pick up a rear wheel where it did with the OME springs and nitrocharger shocks, I did notice that I was able to see daylight through one of the LCA rubber bushings so it's not handling as good as it can atm. Takes a speed bump like a motherfucker though

Haha
I know that road reasonably well. Has some great bends in it!

Been chasing down a short I had developed in the remote switch for my dual battery setup. I found it in the expanded loom in the connection at the fuse. My best guess is that some moisture and road salt deposits made it in there over the winter and started corroding.

I also replaced my cheap in dash usb charger and installed a Blue Sea 4.8 amp unit. The old one finally gave up the ghost.

Is that an internal or external? It looks to be worn as if it's being used as an external when it's really an internal design.

Its an internal, used at an internal. It is on the outside of the washer that sandwiches the bushing into the housing, if that makes sense. It was really hard to remove like it had deformed. I had to use the snap ring pliers and a pair of channel locks to get the ring to compress. Guess all that force was too much for the little wing and it gave way. Order a new set from McMaster-Carr. Since I can’t go to SMORR this weekend anyways I’m not too upset.

Would Tractor Supply have one? Look in their hitch sections for tractors...... Or maybe NAPA.

Didn’t try tractor supply, but I did hit all the auto parts store here in town starting with Napa, tried Fastenal, even stopped at a couple of auto mechanic’s shops to see if they had anything in a drawer somewhere. I’m sure I could hit up one of the tractor or truck repair shops and might get lucky. But I’m not in a hurry.

And here’s a couple pictures of the beast since I haven’t posted any in a while.

Pulled the transfer case to replace the front output bearing and seal. What a PITA for a seal. Had to make a longer gear puller to disassemble the output shaft. Got it all apart now. Hope to get it back together this week.

What was the resolution to you Johnny joint dilema? Currie sells a tool that aids in disassembly/assembly of the joint,

I ordered new retaining rings from McMastercarr. installation was easy. I just used a socket that fit inside the retaining ring and gently compressed the bushing in the shop press then slipped the ring in place.

Putting the front extension housing back together was very straightforward. Mineral spirits cleaned the old FIPG off the housing without having to do any real scrubbing, then wiped with acetone.

I used red high temp dress to hold the seal spring in place during installation to not have to worry about it coming out. I really like using my old pinion bearing parts as seal drivers and press dies.

Notice the radial bearing and retaining ring orientations to the oil valley.

Replaced the seal on the back of the transmission extension housing, replaced the O2 sensors, and got the transfer case mounted back in the truck. Also got the next update in the mail, new weather stripping and window channel runs for the front doors.

Replaced the front door weather stripping, window channel runs, and new window regulators and motors. Didn’t time them before the replacement but I can say that they are much improved. The 22 year old channel runs were very stiff. Here’s a video after the replacement of their operation, for reference it was 45* outside with a 15mph fall breeze.

Jinxed myself talking about transmission drain and fills in another thread. Went to pull my drain plug and it backed off a little then all it did was spin in place. Guess I need to have my torque wrench recalibrated.

Took a little creativity to get the plug out. Needed a third hand to put pressure on the drain plug while I backed it out. Ball joint tool worked perfectly for this.

Tapped the drain to 12 x 1.25. Cleaned the pan and magnets and replace the filter.
Also up the pressure to the regulator for friction as outlined Here.

All buttoned back up and the test drive was successful.

Coated the underside of the truck with WoolWax in preparation for more snow tomorrow. Used the electric Wagner paint sprayer to apply it. I heated up the WoolWax first which really helped getting it through the sprayer. The wife did give me a raised eyebrow when I put it in the microwave for a minute.

Also got the small shop garage door opener replaced and working properly so I can park the LX in doors again. 8ft door for the win! (I did have to remove the HAM antenna from the roof to be able to fit)
