unless...

x11 on the plug being wrapped up on the harness. Toyota always does it that way. There are a couple of different switches that are actually FOR the CDL. The one everyone wants is the one that is the same size as the hazard switch out of the later model 80s. I sell that one for $89.58 shipped.

I thought that was only on the 95 and up models. While that switch would probably work I think it would have required significantly more dissasembly to get the wires routed to where that switch would actually fit in my 93.

On the 93-94 model I think the popular option is the 91-92 switch. Goes in the exact same spot you'd find it in on a 91 or 92...right by the power antanea, ECT, and defroster switch. I got mine for 35 bucks in the classifieds.

Another option

So, I have a 93, and I bought a used 92 tercel hazard switch to use as a cdl switch. After shipping and everything, it only cost me about $12.50. And, unlike in the later models, I did not have to modify the witch or the harness to get them to mate up, it was a direct plug and play. That being said, it wont fit in one of the curved blanks, so I moved it to a punch out under the heater controls where the rear heater fan controls are. Also, because of that, I had to move the rear heater fan controls to the punch out to the left so that the harness would reach, but as you can see in the pictures, it worked out REALLY cheaply, and I am gonna try it out next weekend!

you can get those switches cheaper from the Classifieds here on MUD - just sayin'

Hi Everyone,

I apologize in advance for resurrecting this CDL thread.

I have a '93 fzj80 and installed the CDL switch no problem. I can hear the switch / power go on and off, but for some reason
my dash does not light up the 3rd e-locker indicator. On my '95 it went it without a problem. Did I miss anything in the '93?

thanks

Did this mod on my 94 HDJ, very straightforward, still waiting to find out who told the Japs that CENTER is spelt in that manner, everyone in the civilised world knows it should say CENTRE...right? :flipoff2:

regards

Dave

Agreed, hazard switch was 15 bucks at Autozone, or what ever cheapo parts store I was at, dealer wanted 44 otd. Both mine are side by side, didn't bother with relabeling it, just told the wifey if it doesn't blink, you hit the wrong one, and she ge s it after showing her what it does.

As i understand it, the light will illuminate when the actuator actually does it's thing.

I didn't have any problem on my '94. it lights up just after i hit the switch. I also did the pin 7 mod about 6 months later.

the early style switch comes up for sale a lot here in the marketplace forums -- it's common with several toyota trucks of the era.

Help!
Just installed a brand spanking new 92 cdl switch in my 94 and it does nothing.
And yes I did plug the harness in.....
With it in 4 high push the switch in and out= nothing
Put it in 4 low center diff lock come on press the switch on and off but the cdl stas engaged (atleast the light stays on)
What in the hell is going on here! Did I fall for a newbie prank?

Even reading Seacrest for this, I don't know what gave. I just tried different things, plugging the plug blank with the jumper, unplugging, shifting, cranking, yelling, plugging the switch back in....now it works?
I think plugging the switch in for the first time with it in the on position wacked it out!?
Now I can select cdl on or off in high and it automatically is on in 4 low until I do the 7 pin mod.

Bought the one for my 94 and 97 from Slee. Went in perfect. Actuator on the xfer case needed to be massaged on both by my mechanic to make them work reliably. If they've never been used they are probably frozen. A little cleaning and continued use and they will work fine. On my 94 I have to sometimes drive in a figure 8 or turn back and forth to get it engaged. It's a mechanical "fork" that slides into position locking front and rear.

It seems no one answered this question. I think I have the answer. The light bulbs for all three diff locks are missing from the dashboard cluster in my 1994. The holes are covered up with tape from the factory. Add the bulbs when you add the CDL switch.

So I was finally able to get a CDL switch and started the install today. Pin 7 mod is done and everything is back together but I can not find a plug behind the dash that fits my 1992 CDL switch that I got for my 1994 FZJ. Did I just waste $40 on a switch that wont work in my 1994? Any help would be great, I tried the search but could only find installs for a 96 and newer FZJ.
I just ended up taking my middle portion of my dash off. I used a hook to pull on the black flexible tubing to pull the harness up. Mine was tucked down deep into the dash. This is what you should be looking for though!

Then you just unplug that factory end with the jumped wore from the harness and replace it with the button.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies, I'll give it another go tomorrow. I did find a foam wrapped connector with what looks like a jumper connector in it but it had 3-4 wires. I take some more stuff apart when I look tomorrow. I was getting frustrated because this is the last cheap mod on my list before I save up for suspension and couldn't find the right plug behind the dash.
This is the connector I'm wondering about right now.. Was this sort of above the steering column harness connectors, like way up there?
