Did an EMU 2.5" on my buddies `94. I was dreading the bushings because I don't have a press, (hate getting other people involved).
Contacted local machine shop (that builds engines). He said bring it by we'll look at it. Took the arms in, with diagram and a jig that I made. Left thinking, "straight forward enough". Called next day, he says the angles don't look right "so come take a look before I do the next one".
I asked if it fit the jig, he said yes. Went to the shop, didn't match jig at all. I mentioned that I wouldn't have enough leeway to make it work the way it was. He said "I'm through with them, get em outta here". I asked him if he could at least press them back out so I could at least have a chance to complete my project. He said, "I'm over this, I got some stuff back here I can make some money on, go on and get em outta here"; (he had already quoted me $60).

Needless to say, I was so dumb-founded by his behavior that I forgot to tell him to FO.

Found another shop that worked "with" me and we whipped out the project in about 30min.

Talk about throwing in the towel. And to think this guy builds engines for people. WOW!

I think my new slogan is, I'm over this! That's funny.

What a dink! I'm going to install my bushings sometime in the next month and I'm glad I can do it at work with a buddy to avoid this type of thing. Good to hear you got it done properly (and quickly)

Tech: how big a press did it take to get the old bushings out and the new ones in? We have a 20 ton press at work, will that be enough?

What an ass - hope you didn't actually pay him the $60

From what I hear 20 will work fine. The one we used was a 40, with plenty of blow to spare. Getting the old ones out are alot tougher that getting the new ones in.

I had a one man alignment shop press in mine. Thanks to Landtank's template (I think it was Landtank) he was able to do it, but said it wasn't easy. Fortunately, it was done right. The only way they could get the old bushings out was to burn them out. But when finished, the arms fit perfectly.

I'll bet someone could make some money if they sold arms with the bushings already pressed in and maybe shipped the old arms back as cores. I know a lot of people that are having a hard time finding people to press these bushings in, much less do it right.

When I did my bushings, I hit them with a hammer three times, then I said to myself "I'm over this!" Then I took them to a local undercar service shop. I gave them the new bushings, told them that the front one needs to be high, the back low, and the spacing between the holes needs to be the same as it is now, and left. Came back later that day, paid them $40, and everything went back together perfectly.
I guess you just have to find the right competent tech to do things right the first time.

I did my bushings myself with a shop press, but i did one at a time with landtank's plates. i think it's important to do them both at the same time and assure they are lined up the same on each arm as clsoe as possible. i had to re-do my passenger side as my caster was off a bit and the car was pulling to the right. just a note....

I cut the old ones out and hammered the new ones in with a pipe cap and a sledge hammer using landtank's template. It was really easy once I realized how much force was actually required to knock them in.
